    Hello

Since day one, the mata bd-mlt UJ240AS on my sager 7200 does not read a single DVD movie. It has no problem reading blue-ray discs or writing dvds and blue-rays.

The notebook is under warranty but in the US. I don't want to pay to send the driver all the way to the US.

    Is there a firmware upgrade?

    Any suggestions.

    Many thanks

    Ed

Could this be a software issue?
Do you have dvd playback software installed like Powerdvd, Windvd etc

Have you tried writing a video file to a DVD-R then playing it back in any media playing software with the drive you suspect to be faulty? That would be a good test.

Boot with any OS install DVD, that way current (possibly corrupted) OS drivers do not interfere at all.

Is it just video DVD's or does it also affect game install disks/Operating system media? This would rule out whether it's a DVD reading issue or a codec/playback issue.

It may be a DVD region protection...click the windows logo and type into the search field "Device Manager" then under DVD ROM DRIVE you will find your Burner...doubleclick and check the DVD REGION TAB for "Current Region" and "Changes Remaining". Don`t change anything and report back.
These drives have two lasers, a red one for cd/dvd and a blue one for BR.
If you can not even read data DVDs then the red laser may be dirty or DOA.
