So after stalking the forums all year last year, I preordered the NP5796 the day it cday out from Xotic PC. I was so excited when it finally came early september. I bought a sager because of all you guys saying how great they were and how great xotic pc's customer servace was.
However after a week and a half it started to blue screen crash at start up. I called xotic pc who told me to call sager. The tech told me the best thing to do was just to wipe the hard drive and start from scratch. I was preatty upset because i spent alot of time working on the computer already, and was going to loose some data. But i did it anyway and the computer worked great for another two weeks.
But started bluescreen crashing at startup again. I called xotic pc and they said that I might have to turn my computer in for repairs. Being a college student without a computer is hard so I tried to do anything I would to fix it. To be honest I do not know what I did but it started woking again.
Now not even 2 weeks later it is blue screen crashing again. Even when I put in the recovery CD and try to boot from the cd it blue screen crashes. So now i really do have to send it in and be without a computer for 10 days.
So I asked the tech if I would change my computer to the 17 inch beast with multipul hard drives so that I could protect my data. But he said I could not because it has been past 30 days. Ok that is true, but in those 30 days it has been in a blue screen crash cycle 3 times and will have to have the hard drive earased twice. That is crazy, I paid $3000 dollers for something less reliable then my moms $400 acer. Now I want to exchange it, not return it and get my money back, but exhange it for something that will keep my data safer. But i can't. Come on sager/xotic that is redicluous, your product is not working, it is your job to make things right with the customer. I hope Justsin @ exotic reads this so he can help be an advocate for my cause.

mmdrewser - I sent you a PM. It sounds like one of your RAM modules might of went bad. As I PM'd I suggest (if you are comfortable with) to remove one of the Ram modules and test the system. If the problem still occurs, test the other module.
Another thing you can do is run MemTest. You can create a bootable CD and do a Memory test and see if it produces any errors.
The next thing I can think of is it could be the hard drive. If any of the hardware has failed we can set up a advanced replacement and get this replaced for you. Feel free to PM back and we can review it from there. -
I'm sorry, this really sucks. If it can make you feel any better, I had a very similar experience with HP. My business-class nx9420 got problems after 2 weeks of use. One more week I spent on the phone with India (and here is some consolation for xoticpc customers - at least you can communicate with your seller directly), then I sent it to HP for the repair (Costa Rica
- no kidding) and I got it back with the same issue (nothing fixed) 2 weeks later (and I previously invested $450 in "3-5 business day guaranteed replacement" - no kidding again). Then I asked for an immediate refund or upgrade. And then I was told that that was "not possible, since 30 days had passed". THEN, I filed a complaint with BBB and the attorney general office in AZ
But that's a different story...
Point is: if Sager/xoticpc will really fix your issue in a timely manner - you will still be in much better shape than many of those who order high-end nbs from HP and alike. -
I agree.
BSOD's are best to test (in this order):
- RAM ..... use MemTest86+ to make sure its not the memory
- HDD ..... use CHKDSK C: /F (in Command Prompt) to check if the HDD has bad sectors
- GPU ..... stress the videocard with games and benchmarks
- CPU ..... stress the CPU with multi-threaded benchmarks like wPrime, Othros, or Prime95 -
Thanks for all the suggestions guys, and thanks justin. But I do not fell techi enough to do those things. I sent it off RMA to the pros. Hopefully this issue is resovled.
