    Hi there guys,

I just bought my np8170 with an ATI 6970gpu, I bought it on may/2011.

I was using the stock driver that was already installed. I installed crysis 2 and and I was playing on the battery. The fps was pretty good on hardcore settings and all (25fps on battery). The temperature was about 65~70ºC. Then I installed the newest catalyst available. The fps got a nice boost (45fps on power cord)but temp was 75~80ºC.

After I finished the game, I uninstalled it and installed Dead Space2, and I rebooted the system.

Now I don´t get video signal anymore... I can hear when I log in windows 7, I can hear mouse clicks..etc. But no video.

    Any clues??

Did my brand new notebook got doomed??
    Tips??

I´m desperate here... just spend 2.2k on this beast and now this??

Tried sager´s suppor but they didn´t answer me untill now :(

    Help

This does sound like a bad video card. Contact your reseller for a RMA.

    hi and welcome to nbr.

its not a good idea to run demanding games on battery.

try connecting an external monitor. if that doesnt work youve got a dodgy gpu.if it does work it could be a lose ribon for your screen. this can work lose if you move the notebook around a lot.

    Hi there :)

So...I just played about 5mins on battery, just to see the graphics and all :)
    I move the notebook a lot...maybe that´s it.

I don´t have a external monitor here to test it...gotta wait untill I get home :(
    Damn...that´s gonna kill me :(

the 485 is an alternative to the 6970 but its a lot more expensive.
as your lappy is only a month old it needs to be rma'd back to them for repair.

first check the screen ribon though just in case its loose and causing the screen to stay black.

you should still be covered by warranty but might have to pay the shipping costs back to america.

american prices are great until something goes wrong and you live in another part of the world.

the other option is to contact sager and explain everything. they may like other resellers charge you to ship a new graphics card and when you send back the bad card they will reimburse you the money.
i have no idea if sager will do this but its worth a try.

If the reseller want to help you, he can prepare a DOA with Clevo in China, then you send the card to Clevo by DHL on their charge, and they send you a replacement by DHL also on their charge (you pay zero and your reseller pay zero and you get your replacement fast by 2-ways DHL). At least that what I do with my international customers.

Clevo has 30 days DOA warranty to all their products. If your card is more than 30 days old, then your reseller prepare an RMA with Clevo, and you send your card on your charge by any method you want, and Clevo send the replacement by DHL on their charge.

I had a same problem when I overheated my gpu on gateway laptop, the gpu overheated and cause the solders to melt and loose connections :p
In result when I turned the laptop on, screen would stay blank, laptop would start up and it would shut off automatically after 10sec.

Did you check the ribbon cable on the monitor to motherboard as other suggested? If it's booting up alright (you can hear the sounds and such), then you may have just knocked it loose. The external monitor idea would work as well. A faulty GPU would usually keep it from booting normally.

Was it by chance the older 8xxx series Nvidia cards? People had luck baking their machines in the oven to reflow the solder (not recommended for those that didn't want to risk totally losing it though!)

Yes it was, it was an 8800gts, I passed on baking it, didn't want to mess around and got myself asus g71. Sold it to a member on this board, he wanted to try to bake it to get it back to life.
