So far things are going decently, but there's some very grating minor problems that have me worried.

    1) If I close the lid, the screen takes a while to come back, and in the case where I left the lid down for a while, the screen never came back at all.

    2) There are extremely long post boot delays. As in, after the windows splash goes away and I get signed in, things go extremely slowly (almost 5+ minutes before the laptop become responsive).

The programs I've installed that start on startup:

Skype, Discord, Malwarebytes, Steam. My previous laptop had no issues loading this number of apps + 3 more.

    3) The touchpad doesn't work anymore. Not sure if it's a drivers issue, since I updated everything from Obsidian. I've used the windows settings to re-enable/disable, and used the keyboard shortcut. No luck. Also for some reason I can't disable the touchpad from device manager.

    4) I can't find the CCC despite it being installed from Obsidian tools.

Is the screen detected by windows?

Try disabling apps through the startup options to see which is causing the delay.

Contact your reseller regarding the touchpad/software.

Well the screen is detected normally in device manager, so I'm not sure what you mean by the question? It's just that if I close the lid and open it again the screen is black for a bit but manages to recover, but when I left it down for a while it didn't recover. Maybe it's got something to do with the new nvidia driver I installed? I already had a crash in Nier.

I actually think it might be Malwarebytes because they gave me a premium trial so it might be trying to do some fancy stuff that's causing the startup delay.

Any suggestions for finding CCC? I feel really dumb heh.

@DrunkLightning I have the same issue as you with the trackpad. I'm not sure if it's a compatibility problem with the current Synaptics driver and the Windows 10 creator's update, but I get no response out of it at all. The only workaround I've found is to install a much older Synaptics driver that was designed for Windows 8 (not 8.1). This article shows you what to do and has a link to a Packard Bell support site that still hosts the appropriate driver.

You will also need to prevent Windows update from downloading and reinstalling the newer driver automatically. You'll want to purge your Windows Update cache as well - I've provided instructions for that in this post.

Yeah I thought that might be the case. There was a period when transitioning onto windows 10 my old MSI's touchpad just stopped working as well (though later it somehow recovered). I wonder if I could nab the drivers I have off the msi and move them to here... They're both Synaptic touchpads, but iunno how big the difference is at least for driver installation.

I'll take a look about the Windows update stuff, that seems pretty useful for trouble shooting for the future.

I've tried those drivers - couldn't get them to install at all. You're welcome to give it a go and see if you have better luck.

Heads up the link you posted for purging windows cache doesn't work, and editing the URL couldn't get me to a thread either.

    Update:

After uninstalling my touchpad, upon reboot there was already a set of drivers installed. When I tried to install an older copy I found, it told me that there was already a newer one in place. It works for now, so I guess I'll take it?

Stopping malwarebytes from launching on boot removed the startup problem.

The screen still struggles to recover if I close the lid though. I rolled back to slightly older drivers from 4/12

I found the CCC but I have no idea how lul

Try the link again. You need to hover your mouse over it for a second or two for it to fully populate the URL, as it is rather long.

Though in this case if the "cache" driver works should I just roll with it?

As of now the only outstanding issues are video card related (if I close the lid it still has really slow recovery time), which I guess can be expected but I'm nonetheless a little disappointed. I'll try running it for a week and see if more problems pop up, and then I might do some more research or make another thread detailing each of my issues and see if I can work through them all.
