I recently purchased an NP 8265 for my grandson to use for gaming. The computer has the Intel I7 4th generation processor, a Radeon HD 8970 GPU, and 16 gb of DDR3 memory. I have loaded all of his games that work great, except for Star Wars Battlefront. Whenever you start the game, a warning pops up stating, "Detected Intel Driver version #1 22.19.162.4 04/24/2017 00.00.00 #2 10.18.14.4578 01/14/2017. The recommended driver version is xx.xx.14.4264 or later. Please update your drivers". When I tell the game to continue, I get a :"record error 20032, contact customer support". The game goes to the screen where it tells you to hit start to begin playing. At that point, the game locks up. Hitting start has no effect. Every driver in the laptop is the latest available, both the Intel and AMD Radeon graphics drivers. The Radeon control panel has the game Battlefront shown there, with options selected. For some reason, I believe the game is only seeing the Intel 4600 on-board graphics, and not the Radeon HD 8970 GPU. When I go to the EA website that checks for hardware sufficiency, it only sees the Intel 4600, and states that it is not powerful enough to run the game. I guess my question is whether there is a way to disable the Intel 4600 and run only the HD 8970? I did not see that option in the bios, and I cannot find a way to do it in the control panel. I consider myself proficient with computers, although all of my experience is with building and playing on desktops. My experience with laptops and the dual graphics systems is zero. Thanks for reading my post and thanks for any guidance you may be able to give.

The outputs are hardwired that way so no way of cutting out the middle man in this case.
Have you tried rolling back the intel drivers to a slightly older version? -
Thanks for your reply Meaker. I have Googled for older drivers and have, so far been unsuccessful. My main issue is that I want the game to see the AMD 8970 GPU. Any idea how I can make this happen? I have no idea how this laptop decides which graphic source to use for any particular application.

Hi. Does the following apply to your computer?

Note the game will only ever see the Intel GPU, the assigning comes down to how the IGP chooses what to farm off to the dedicated GPU.

Namaiki, thanks for your response. I had found that Radeon tool you mentioned above, and every game currently installed on the laptop is set for high performance, but the problem still occurs. Just for fun, I loaded Star Wars Battlefront onto an older Lenovo laptop I have had for a few years, a laptop with an Nvidia GT660 video card. The game runs perfectly. I cannot understand why this much newer laptop with significantly improved hardware will\ not run that game and will not run Crysis 3. It appears I might should have purchased a Lenovo laptop for my grandson. Meaker@Sager, if the game will only see the Intel GPU, what was the purpose of putting a Radeon HD8970 GPU in the unit?

Because enduro much like optimus then farms the IGP workload onto the dedicated GPU. It's transparent to the game so it does not need to be changed for it to work.

Meaker@Segar, is there any way you know that I can get this laptop to run Star Wars Battlefront? I have set the Radeon software to maximum performance for this game and it still will not start. I bought this laptop for my grandson to play games and it will not play his favorite game. AS stated above, all the game sees is the Intel 4600 video. I have downloaded the absolute latest Intel and Radeon drivers.

If you have gone through the AMD panel and are sure everything is set to use the AMD chip then there is not much else you can do.
Seems like EA decided not to bother writing the game to at all support the intel IGP properly and so screwed over switchable systems.
This is poor coding on their part.
