I've been having problems with my DVD player on my Clevo M570U. My DVD's have been skipping badly and in most cases, freeze altogether. I haven't had any problems with installing programs though it seems just the DVD'sare causing problems. I will admit that I have been playing pirated movies(its all I can get here) and I didn't care when they skipped or didn't play alltogether, but now I'm having problems with region 1 disks my family sends me from the states. I checked and the IDE controler and it is still in DMA (pirated DVD's were causing XP to change from DMA to 'PIO only'). Could it be a hardware issue or maybe dust? I've kept it pretty safe in a 1550 Pelican case (waterproof, dustproof, shockproof). Any ideas?

Well I have been to the lands of stan and it could very well be the sand and the dust. Any chance you could get one of those dvd/cdrom cleaning disk and try it? (probably not). I have had some issue using power dvd to play movies it cause them to pause and jump. I started using vlc and haven't had any issues with it. Most likely though it needs to be cleaned if you can get to the led with q-tip and some alcohol it would help a lot. Any way thats all I got from Iraq...

try getting a program called anydvd, it eliminates dvd regiond codes while it runs in the backround. some dvd drives can only change region codes so many times before they are done.. some are 5 times others ive seen are even 10.. cant be sure this is your problem but i have seen it before and this solved it for the people i suggested it to.. its from slysoft try it out.. start it up and let it run then play whatever region dvd's you want to..

Good suggestion zfactor if they can't find anydvd they can try dvd43 as well. Unless they are running vista64 it is not supported. I forgot about that.

try running the dvd off the actual HD.. if that fixes your shutter it could be DVD Drive issue. AnyDVD is SWEET! and runs on Vista 64 here..

anyway if you get AnyDVD, rightclick the fox on the Tray next to the clock and it will give you a option to "Rip Video DVD to Harddisk..."

I'll try using a different DVD player but I don't think that will help. I also don't think it has to do with the region my DVD player is set to. Its already on region 1 but my DVD's from the states skip also. How do I fix it if its my driver thats messing up things? When my DVD got stuck in PIO only format I deleted the driver and let windows find it again but is there a factory driver that might work better?
