hi all,
i'm not sure if this thread is already posted somewhere else, couldn't find it in the search... if it is i apologize![]()
the np9262 is the only laptop to use quad desktop processors.
how much of a performance difference can i expect if i choose
the Q9450 (2.6ghz) on the np9262, over the np5796's T9600 (2.8Ghz)
THis is assuming that the other components remain similar, like 4gig ram vs 4gig etc, same gpu, hd everythin really, i would just like to have an understanding of the difference in power, speed, performance of these two cpus... any help?
the reason i ask is that i am considering buying one of them, i love the stylish looks of the np5796, and the improved montevina platform, ddr3 ram etc, but i am drawn by the raw power of the np9262, along with it's amazing cooling system....
Thanks

The NP9262 has a quad core, so it should by definition be faster.
However, not all applications (very few, in fact) are quad core optimized yet, so the difference won't always be as noticeable. -
Interesting, do you know any such applications that are optimized for full quad core capabilities? will the quad core improve multitasking capabilities? by a substantial margin?
-
Hmmmm, I think frequently-used programs like Photoshop and such will probably be optimized, but don't take my word for it...
About multitasking... This is primarily done by the RAM memory, I don't know if the processor will change that much. But anyway, if you have 4 GB of RAM and either of those processors, you're looking at a monster with serious multitasking abilities! -

Applications that are optomized for full quad-core are certain high end games like Crysis, and many professional programs such as Sony Vegas 8 Pro and 3ds Max.
Edit: Beat me to it! Again! -
Yeah I post faster than my own shadow
-
yea ok i see what you're saying... in that case the new np5796 has 1066 mhz ram, will that improve the multitaskin capabilities over the np9262, theoretically??
-
-
so the more cores you have the better. -
nice nice... if it were you tankbuster, which would you choose, if you needed it for decent gaming and audio creation/mixing, assuming the looks of each notebook of course, i mean, i prefer the np5796 for looks anyday, but what's your opinion?
-
if you are doing audio editing/mixing.... definitely get the quad-core.
if you are bring the system around a lot and want some more portability, get the 5796. -
nice thanks for your opinion, i don't think the portability factor is that big an issue, i mean im lugging around a bunch of stuff, and im a pretty big guy, (that pic is a few years ago), so i mean, the weight is not an issue, i just want it good enough to show it off to my apple fanboys... maybe ill paint it from xoticpc... hmmm
-
definitely get a nice custom paint job if you can.
we want pics if you do. -
definately i kinda owe it to you gophn for helpin me pick my laptop based on budget in another thread, i was lookin into the chroming feature they had, but haven't been sucessful in gettin any pictures from xoticpc, but laptopdesign has one pic which looks absolutely stunning i emailed them for more if they had, but they haven't replied yet.. ill keep u guys posted
-
The only reason why you'd be picking NP5793 is portability and battery life (and looks).
So good luck with the NP9262!! -
thanks a lot guys, take care!
-
Get the Np9262 if you got have the got funds want a laptop with raw power and total pwnage! on all your mates
