I'm going to order a Clevo P170EM from cyberpowerpc.com and while they do have a backlit keyboard (blue), it doesnt mention if its programmable to do all the different colors as other Clevo P170EMs that I see out there.

Does anyone know if all Clevo P170EM laptops have the programmable backlit colors or is it specific, to say, only Sager versions of the Clevo? Thanks!

for ref, here is the model I'm looking at:

    Xplorer X7-7500 Gaming Notebook

here are other versions of the same Clevo, with the programmable keyboard.

Prostar P170EM 17.3 Gaming Laptop | Clevo P170EM Gaming Laptop | Sager NP9170 Gaming Laptop | Custom Built Gaming Laptop

Sager NP9170 / Clevo P170EM - XOTIC PC - Sager Custom Gaming Laptop

The Sager NP9170/Clevo P170EM have a programmable backlit keyboard regardless of where you get it.
I can be set to 8 different colors and it is divided into 3 sections and it has some other settings to make the colors pulsate or change randomly.

Yes.. the blue color is just a example of how the backlit keyboard looks like. You WILL be able to change the keyboard illumination into 8 different colours :)

Thats good to hear. So all Clevo P170EMs come with that ability regardless of what site I get it from? Cyberpower seems to brand their own stuff and doesnt mention Sager, so wasn't sure if Sager added that programmable backlit keyboard and cyberpower is trying to match their "version" of the backlit with just one color.

Just called Cyberpower and they finally were able to give me an answer after looking into it. Two of their customer reps first told me it was only blue and finally one of them said they would go ask the IT guys after they got back from lunch. He told me they just got the programmable backlit keyboard a couple weeks ago and they arent advertising it yet on their website but yes, the Clevo P170Ems they have do have it. I told him they need to start advertising it, because as silly as it may be, guys like me like that type of flashy stuff, and he laughed and he said they were planning on listing it soon. So thats good to hear.

Thanks for your replies guys. This is a great site for info. I hope this post helps someone in the future.

The only thing that would have scared me away from that is a statement of "just getting in programmable" keyboards in relation to an EM series laptop. Its part of the new design. Kinda scary they not only had to check on it, but worded it that way as well. Just sounds like someone trying to entice a person into buying it. OOO! Your just in time! We JUST got them in! Hurry hurry! :p

The backlit programmable keyboards have been equipped on these laptops since their release in early April of this year so it is nothing new.

They are only available on the NP9150 and the NP9170.

its possible that they just started carrying the 9170s recently. Who knows, it was a little weird that the customer service reps didnt know anything about it until they had go ask. I had already bought the laptop before asking this question, so i know he wasnt trying to sell me on it. Honestly I got the impression he was little embarassed to tell me it wasnt advertised.

CyberpowerPC? U sure bro? I normally don't like to trash reputations but after all the pathetically funny (due to bad english and uselessness) mfr responses to complaints on newegg, I'd avoid them like the plague. Here's an example:

    source: a cyberpowerpc product
Well, they sure seem like people I could trust with my money. At least they use word-recognition software. That was what, 13 grammatical errors in 4 sentences?

My work has ordered all of our computers from them and I had a couple co-workers order from them and they all recommended them. They have an A+ with the BBB. I've been updated constantly as to the status of my order. When I called to ask them about the keyboard, the guy was very friendly and I could understand him just fine.

The bad english example you gave was funny, but I've experience similar situations from other companies from my car insurance company, credit cards, and even Comcast. It happens. A lot of people recommended Xotic, yet there are also some bad reviews with them. Not one company is perfect, and I decided to go with Cyberpower because they had a great deal for Memorial Day and they were referred to me by people I trust.

So we'll see how it goes!
