I've been having problems with the fingerprint scanner software running on the NP5791. I noticed from time to time, the computer will become really slow... So I went into Task Manager and psqltray.exe was taking up over 3GB of my RAM! All I can do is end process on the program and I'm able to reclaim my RAM. The software was pre-installed when I got the laptop. I really don't want to stop using the fingerprint reader. It's pretty handy. Does anyone else have this problem or have some kind of fix?

It sounds like the program has a memory leak. Restart the machine and let the process start, and watch its memory usage for a few minutes. If it keeps going up then there is a memory leak. The only way I know to fix that would be to get a different version of the software.

I just got my new NP5791 and my Protector Suite is doing the same thing. I've tried reinstalling the program and the drivers on a clean install of vista. My guess is we just need to wait for a new version.
But I do LOVE my new laptop. -
Just put my specs in my sig.

check out the software website.. there is a link to speak with there tech support:

I just got a call back from a Tech at Upek. He did confirm that there was a memory leak in the software, but he is sending me a link to download new software that fixes the problem. I asked him if I could post the link for others to use, but he said that they need to have the calls go through tech support (to keep track of everything). Bottom line is that there is a fix...but you have to send in an email or phone call to tech support at Upek to get the new software.

I've had the same problem. I was pretty worried when my brand new m570ru started slowing down rapidly and for no reason... then I opened task manager and realized that the finger print software was chewing 90% of my memory. End-Friggin-Task.
I gotta agree that it's kind of harsh that they won't make a public release of the fix. Bah, guess I'll have to deal with some tech support later this week. -
could you please link it here too? i would definitely need that as well
