Soon to be owner here, finally : )

Cant exactly post my specs as well, I'm still not sure which CPU I'll be getting in place of the T9300 (assuming T9400), and I'm in the process of trying to upgrade my specs a bit since I see I can get some upgrades for 10 bucks CHEAPER:

After all is said and done, and I've made the necessary changes to my order, I'll be giddy as a schoolgirl waiting for:

I might just go cheapy and get the P8400, 9800m GT, and 2 gigs of RAM (and upgrade to 4 gigs at a later time). The $2000 price tag on a setup like this intrigues me.

    Edit: looking at newegg.com I see a 2Gig DDR2 800 stick of RAM goes for about $40. So I assume if I wait around a year I can get the 2gig DDR3 1066 for about $50. I think I'm gonna get 2 gigs.

i think this is my best bet for the money i want to spend. ive decided to upgrade the processor instead of the memory. i did this because i think the memory will be alot easier to upgrade later than the processor. ill buy another 2gb's of memory in about a month or so, if i feel i need it. ill be ordering this the 3rd week of august, when i get paid :)

+ if i just go with 2 gb's of memory, is it better to go with vista 32-bit, because i dont want to get alot of compatibillity issues.

I honestly haven't heard of compatibility issues with 64 bit vista like are there with 64 bit XP. Maybe someone with Vista can verify. Or do you mean will Vista 64 have issues with only 2 gigs?

well ive heard that if i have 4gb of ram, then i need vista 64-bit, but then ive heard of stuff like compatibillity issues. i dont know if its true but if the hardware/ software isint verified by microsoft, then it cant wont work with 64-bit, thats why it makes it more secure. ill only upgrade to vista 64-bit if and when i get 4gigs.

and is it true that we need 64-bit if we have 4gigs of ram? and does anyone know if my compatibillity questions are true?

32bit Windows cannot utilize all 4gigs of ram, however, this won't stop you from installing it. The OS will work properly, just not see the full 4gigs.

If you want to setup a dual boot of a 32bit OS, go for it.

Driver signing is required by default in the 64bit version of Windows Vista (for Kernel level drivers only, it's a security feature designed to help prevent rootkit installation). However, this can be disabled by the bootloader. With UAC disabled, you can install unsigned drivers, yet they still will not load without driver signing disabled at boot time.

I'm new here but just picked up one of these. I am as interested in photoshop and such as much as gaming, so I skimped on the processor and loaded out the memory. Hopefully that wasn't the wrong choice.

I mean to ask, anyone know if the Turbo memory can be used as a Photoshop scratch disk (it seems to be usable, but I want to double check)

and of course I will game on this, too.

I am personally looking forward to picking this up in the flesh in Industry on tuesday :) can't wait.

Loading up the memory was a good choice.

If you're using the 32bit Photoshop, you can actually use a ramdrive as the scratch disk and dedicate 1-2 gigs of ram away from the OS. Due to 32bit addressing, this is your best bet for performance prior to the 64bit edition of Photoshop for Windows (because Photoshop won't be able to use all your 4gigs of ram anyway).

Far as ramdisk software, check this site.. http://www.ramdisk.tk/

The free edition will give error / nag popups, however can be used unconstrained and at max speed for testing.

If you don't use 16bit software (ancient Windows programs -- WOW16 doesn't exist under x64 Windows), or programs that require 32bit virtual drivers installed, stick with the 64bit OS. XP64, Vista64, etc all run flawlessly on the NP5796, and Sager provides you all the drivers you need from their website to get everything working. So, no driver problems.

64bit Windows is now fairly mature and a good choice of OS. Besides, you're running a 64bit capable processor, might as well take advantage of it.. And, if you ever hit that brickwall where you need to run something 16bit (IE, check printing software), you can always look into using a Virtual Machine with a 32bit OS under your 64bit installation.

Thanks for the ramdisk info. Yes, I am anticipating 64 bit photoshop coming in a few months and hope to take full advantage.
