    I am curious what, if any, differences there are between the 2 processors besides clock speed? I am leaning towards the Q6700 because the clock speed is higher but I need a sanity check to see if I am missing anything.

    Thanks.

    Q6700 is faster, while the Q6600 is slower and better priced. That's the difference.

    Here is a link to some added information comparing the different processors that are offered on the 9262. :)

    IMO, the small increase in speed does NOT justify such a large increase in price.

    Thanks Justin. Now if Nvidia can ever get the SLI issue figured out I can order my 9262. Who knows maybe by the time they get things fixed Penryns will be available.

    In April Intel will reduce the price of the 6700, as they did with the 6600 last year. Then the price will be in comparison with the performance difference :)

    The only difference besides the cost is the multiplier speed. The 6700 has a x10 multiplier, the 6600 has a x9 multiplier. Same clock speed, etc.
    Q6600 = 2394 MHz = 266 MHz core x 9 multiplier
    Q6700 = 2660 MHz = 266 MHz core x 10 multiplier
    X6800 = 2926 MHz = 266 MHz core x 11 multipler

    Extra note is the G0 stepping allows you to change the mulitplier to anything lower. Extreme edition (and ES cpu's) allows you to modify the multiplier higher than stock (or lower).

    When Intel is going to reduce the price another CPU will come and take the Q6700's place at the same price.

    Well my original question was not "which processor should I get". The question was if there were any architectural differences between the 2 that would make the 6600 a better choice.

    Thanks for the input everyone.

    Broadly speaking, no, other than the higher frequency.

    I hate when people say to wait for another thing, because by the time it gets cheaper another, new, thing will take it's place at the same price the old one is sold.
