    Hello,

I'm planning on installing my own processor in the M980NU and I think I will be buying the Q9200. I have the following questions:

-How complicated will it be for me to install it? (I have some experience with installing my own RAM and HD on my Macbook )

-Can the q9200 be readily OC'd like the QX9300?

-Does anyone know if this one is legit? ( http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-INTEL-CORE-...66:2|39:1|72:1234|240:1318|301:1|293:1|294:50 )

    Thanks,

1- You just have to be a lil more careful... try to look a video on youtube on how to do it. You may also have to apply some thermal grease.

2- ES CPU's, like the one you linked to, always have unlocked multipliers. However Im not sure if the OEM version of the q9200 have unlocked multiplayers... or if there is any OEM version at all.

3- I ordered one the 23, and it arrived today... however I was not here, so I have to pick it up tomorrow in the post office. (same seller btw. Gave me a link to a page to track the item... Also, keep in mind that the shipping is 24$)

Hmm thats a nice price makes me want to get one. But then I may regret not going all out for the QX9300

Does anyone know if it can be overclocked to 3.0 Ghz stable?

Wont happen soon... maybe within 2 weeks, cuz I havent ordered my M860TU yet :p I only ordered the cpu fearing that someone else would take it (250$ is a nice deal)

People overclock the QX9300 to 3.2 Ghz, and the stock clocks are 2.5 ghz... so I guess its possible. I wont be doing any overclocking though; a 45w cpu in the M860TU is enough.

I doubt it. Clevo has never released a laptop with an unrestricted BIOS. I have a feeling that the M980NU will have a 0.5x and 1.5x multiplier limit on the QX9300.

yer unless some one on this forum makes haxed bioses for Clevos that alow unlocked multiplayers (^_^).... then yes..

Till then you can only overclock via FSB software changes... (and im not sure if setfsb suports the q9200

I really wanted a Quadcore in my m860tu.. ( i dont think i have the right revision still have to look).... but after looking at it..

a 2.9 duel overclocked with SetFSB to 3.2 - 3.3 is prob the best option (due to limited overclocking options for quads).

    :( quite sad really.

I think multi will be unlocked in later BIOSes. Good thing now is the FSB-Ram can be unlocked so ram will go higher than 1333. :)

Heathkidd, FSB software dose not ned to support cpu's, it need to support chipset's, and one the m980 since it will use a nvidia chipset you wold be able to overclock it on Ntune... the chipset as i know it wold reach easily 300 mhz of FSB (it was the maximum that it reached on a qosmio x305 of one friend of my)

so now just make some calculations

iven if the m980 dosent have unliked multiplyer (just liek the toshiba x305 dosent) you wold be able of :

    q9000 (stock 2000mhz) maximum wold be 2250mhz
    q9100 (stock 2260mhz) maximum wold be 2550mhz
    qx9200 (stock 2400mhz) maximum wold be 2700mhz
    qx9300 (stock 2527mhz) maximum wold be 2850mhz

    simple ;) bguads m8's

Are you using a testing unit and pre-release bios version?
