I did not pick up from any of the earlier posting that the Q9450 had starting showing up from PNB or Xotic... slippery little fellows these resellers... time to buy is here for me.

Both those companies are full of nice guys... kinda hard to finally order from one and not the other... maybe I'll flip coin.
Going with the 9262 with Q9450, 1920 glossy, single 8800GTX, 4Gb, 2-200Gb HD in RAID 1 at 7.2k with Vista Ultimate

PcMicroWorks and Eurocom? I think have had them for bit now. They also have the option for the Q9550. Which is the processor of choice for me atm. Nice to see Intel is finally getting enough stock so that more people have them.

I currently am running a 2.93Ghz X6800, the 2.83Ghz Q9550 should do me fine for a few years. Hopefully more games will start taking advantage of Quad Cores.

Indeed, but, as most know, they like to fly solo - the fact that xoticpc and powernotebooks are now offering the Q9450 implies that Clevo/Sager, in their conservative ways, have finally decided that they're happy with the BIOS mods and now are willing to publicly state that the D901/NP9262 will support the Q9450/9550 CPUs.

Having been around a bit now, I will give PCMW and Eurocom credit for being correct even if they do jump the gun on Clevo's public statements regarding whether a new component is supported or not; however - and you can call me a stick in the mud if you want to - the final seal of good housekeeping, even if a little tardy, is necessary for my personal peace of mind.

Well, mostly because it's the newest latest-and-greatest and most of us here have a pathological need to be on the bleeding edge (or at least, on what we perceive to be thus), but yes, it's also because it'll be cooler given that it's based on 45nm technology.

Eurocom is also proposing the Xeon 3360 for the D901. It seems to be equivalent to the Q9550 in specifications.

    FYI

Intel to update desktop CPU in 3Q 2008

Intel is planning to cut desktop CPU prices in the third quarter this year, along with the launch of more quad-core and dual-core models, according to sources at motherboard makers.

The performance-level Core 2 Quad Q9650 with a core frequency of 3GHz will launch priced at US$530 in thousand-unit tray quantities, while the Core 2 Quad Q9550 will drop around 40% from its original price of US$530 to US$316.

The Core 2 Quad 9450, currently priced at US$316, will be phased out of the market to be replaced by the Core 2 Quad 9400 at 2.66GHz and a price of US$266. The Core 2 Quad Q9300 and Q6700 will both be phased out at the same time too, leaving the Q6600 as the only 65nm quad-core CPU left in Intel's lineup, and which will drop from US$224 to US$203.

For dual-core CPUs, Intel will launch the Core 2 Duo E8600 at 3.33GHz and US$266, and will phase out the Core 2 Duo E8300. The company will also drop pricing for the Core 2 Duo E8500 and E8400 from US$266 and US$183 to US$183 and US$163, respectively.

Intel will also add the Core 2 Duo E7300 at 2.66GHz and US$133 to its entry-level line and to drop the price of its Core 2 Duo E7200 from US$133 to US$113.

With the updated pricing, motherboard makers and channel vendors both expect increased demand in the third quarter, with motherboard makers predicting an average sequential growth of 15% in third-quarter revenues.

The kobalt boys in the uk have been supplying the Q9450 (and 9550) for a while and I myself have had a Q9550 running for about a month.
Definitely a top processor and runs cool as a cucumber!

Have they actually stated this or have they just not officially approved the support of XEONs?

    To everyone:

I know that there are a lot of US members here but I think it is worth highlighting an issue that has been raised here before to make some points clear:

1/ Sager have resellers, they are the biggest seller of Clevo chassis but they are not Clevo. Sager do business in a way that they can support their resellers - they wait for "full support" for a product before launching it or announcing support. I am not suggesting there is anything wrong with this btw, it's just how they do business.

2/ Companies like Eurocom, Kobalt and other European Clevo chassis integrators are not tied to Sager in any way and sell Clevo chassis, not Sager products.

As far as the XEONs go, an X3360 for example is pretty much the same chip as a Q9550. There are differences (which I won't go into here, I believe they have been covered here) but as I have stated, the companies listed in point 2 have more freedom than Sager and it's resellers and so can be more innovative.

We (Kobalt) have actually also begun testing and so far have had no issues.

I was getting at that they have not officially approved support for it yet. As of now they have it as a unapproved processor. (which could change)

Probably for the same (or similar) reason(s) it took so long to get confirmation on support for the Q9450 - they've either found instances where the implementation causes a fault or a crash, or they haven't done enough testing yet to be sure (in their conservative way) that they've covered all the bases and would have found any bugs or conflicts if such existed. (and, yes, I know I'm not justin; I'm just an NBR gadfly who likes to butt in :D ).

It's a mild increase IMO if you already have a Q6600. I have a X6800 so its almost a doubling in my case.

    Q6600 2.4Ghz Quad vs Q9550 2.83Ghz Quad

I'm personally going to wait until Q3 when the price of the CPU's drop to $316 for the Q9550.
