Hi,
I recently purchased a NP5793 / M571RU-U from Eurocom. I decided to buy this laptop, because my old Dell Inspiron 9400 is just not enough anymore. It has served me well, and I decided it's time to go on.
Anyways, now to the question:
What are the possibilities that we'll see a Quad-Penryn and possibly a next gen nVidia GFX-card (9800m GTX?) in the NP5793 laptop?
How good are the chance of it happening?
I mean, considering this laptop uses MXM-standard and whatnot, the chances should be pretty good, right?
The reason why I'm asking is because I'd like this laptop to last me at least 4-5 years, considering I payed 2000$ for it...

QX9300 is impossible, you need the new Centrino 5 laptop. Maybe 9800GTX should be OK. Clevo is now testing Montevina platform, and i´ll wait to May and change my NB with QX

The only mobile quad core CPU Intel will release this next quarter will be an extreme CPU, costing around 1000$, so don't get your hopes up so high. The "budget" quads (mobile) will be released probably late 2008 - early 2009.
nVidia is known for not releasing any new high-end GPUs quite often. The mobile version of the 8800 GTX saw the light after more than a year apart from the desktop release, so I'd expect at least for the 9 series to be released.
Threads like this don't have their place here. Not that they're stupid or whatever, but they're pure speculations. -
-
Can´t imagin how much it will cost for a QC Mobile with 8800M SLI.......
-
What momentum? They suck. Their only good card is the 2600 XT, which is in only one notebook, the HP HDX, which isn't quite portable. So what momentum? Let's face it, they're long gone from this market.
-
and ati arent dead with the market share, they are to take 50% of the market.
Read the mainsite sometimes before you make such comments. -
I'm sorry if the thread is inappropriate. I'm just wondering if this lappy is really worth the 2000$ I paid for it. For 2000$, I expect at least some upgrade possibilities.
-
with a laptop nothing is really certain of upgrade ability, maybe if the new card 9800MGTX or w/e its gonna be called comes in the same mxm module and the mobile and chasis allows it (size and heat) then i dont see why not, but dont get your hopes up.
and i would say your current laptop is worth it, its top spec if you bought it with an 8800MGTX, there is nothing better than that card right now, only sli -
Doxie, ATi has a high market share only for low end graphics. The mid end to high end is all nVidia's. ATi's current best card of notebooks is 2600HD, which isn't as good as a DDR3 8600M GT.
-
I believe they are going to come out with the hd3000 series soon. Hopefully they will be viable competitors to the 8800m gtx
-
they'll outperform the 8800 ... that's my guess... says an nvidia fanboy....
-
-
Unless Ati/amd pulls a rabbit 3870HD mobile out of a hat , they will never compete in the high end sector. Even in the desktop world, the 8800 GTX is the king, better than the 3870...now the 8800 Ultra, that`s the Emperor...
-
Even a 8800 GT card is better than any current ATi card (maybe except for that 2 in 1 or whatever it is called).
grunnsat, so could 9800M GTX, but it's not there. HD 3400 = low end, HD 3600 = middle end. Where the hell is the high end? That's all I'm saying...ATi has nothing to offer to gamers. -
So if you want to game, maybe Nvidia is the better choice. For multimedia purposes, go for ATI. -
Probably so, but even so, the point is that even though nVidia has all the high-end cards (which whoop ass starting with 8800 GT, better than any ATi), their market share is at most 10% of nVidia's sales.
-
that is just why i think amd is wanting to change around things, and be able to release a high end card..... just a guess.. but isn't it odd that, in the low end sector almost every budgetpc comes with an amd?
-
Haha. Someone hasn't been keeping up with the times.
These days, the strongest desktop graphics are Ati once more. The 3870 x2 outperforms the Ultra by 2-15% or so, and though Ultra beats it in a few tests, the 2x is superior in the end because it has 1gb total memory and costs a great deal less (about as much as a good GTX). Also, you'd be surprised what the standard 3870 can do in a battle versus the GTX.
I think Ati is able to release some fun cards for laptops. We'll see what happens. But right now I'm tired of Ati cuz I've had problems with their card (2600HD) for months. But they have potential.
Also, I'm new. -
I've read that even a 8800 GT beats any ATi except for the 3870 X2, so...
-
8800GT does beat the HD3870,
the 3870x2 beats or equal to the 8800 ultra.
3870x2 is just two 3870 on one board, whos to say that nvidia wont realease a 8800GT x2 just to piss on ati fire?
lol we are so off topic! XD -
The fact of the matter remains that the only problem in this topic remains the 9800M GTX (so interesting name, had a Pro, but from ATi). Sure, it will take some time, but quad core will come to this laptop (or it's replacement) and it will not cost a fortune and this will happen sometime late this year, but the video card...well, that's a different story.

well you never know
most likely before christmas yea
Quad-Penryn and 9800m GTX graphics card in NP5793?
