There are number of sources to show that Nvidia has scheduled the shipment of MXM Type IV videocards of the Quadro 3600M by late-Q3 to early-Q4 2008.

(....and rumored Quadro FX based off of 98xxM cards.)

Nvidia confirmation will be soon, probably at their NVISION event in August.

Most vendors should have it for pre-order as soon as they get the confirmations through Clevo and their distributors/importer OEMs.

So Clevo notebooks can now become great media workstations as well... other than being great gaming machines.

    FYI:
    Quadro 3600M ~ Geforce 8800M GTS
    (both have 64 shaders)

I believe Nvidia was exclusively making the cards for Dell and HP initially.

You can get a notebook now and get the card later.

If you go through a vendor that would upgrade the card when its available, and you just pay the difference.

One vendor I know that will cover the cost of cards when upgrading is PCMicroworks. You have to purchase their Diamond warranty plan... which is worth it for those that want to upgrade major components in the future.

Ya know, inasmuch as I think it's a good idea for NVidia to be pushing to make MXM a real standard for notebooks, this sort of hanky-panky does not help further the goal of reaching the point at which notebook GPUs become truly fungible commodities. For me, this confirms some of my suspicions regarding the Clevo v. _Dell hoo-haa and the 8800s that NVidia plays favorites behind the scenes, and was (and still is, for all I suspect) giving _Dell cards that it was not giving to anyone else, like Clevo.

Its been like that for mobile technology for a number of years now.

To get the edge on the market, large companies/OEM (like Dell & HP) would like to have exclusives (for a price of course) for a set number of months before other companies can have the same technology.

Since that cannot be done with platforms because they are launched to affect all of the market... then the main thing left something that isnt launched for all systems:
    - videocard
    - HDD
    - other niches

My understanding is that if you are playing games stick with 8800 or 9800, but if you are WRITING games get the Quadro. Is that a good summation??

    Chris.

thats the typical view of it.

But you can actually do both with either cards... its just usually more bang for the buck to get a Geforce.

Only a few programs for rendering and editing require a Quadro... like SolidWorks.

Do you think there is any hope to see this card in the M860TU (or in any 15.4' laptop), considering the thermal balance?

    Not a chance, the 860TU won't have any CPU/GPU over 44W....

I see, what do you think then about the M570TU? Could it handle the card?

I would not confirm any compatibilities yet.

However, the Quadro 3600M is ~ to Geforce 8800M GTS (not GTX).

So current D901C & M570RU should support it fine.

As for the new models, there should not be any reasons why it would not work in them either.

TBH I would have loved getting a Quadro 3600M in this baby instead of the 8800M GTX, as im an engineer student :p Tho I should have went for XP SP3 instead of wista aswell :p Actually I think the Quadro cards are very superior to the Geforce cards for ie. Solidworks and other rendering tasks. A mate from studies got the quadro based on the 8400M and it really rocks for Solidworks.

But isnt it possible to get a Geforce to work just as a Quadro ?? Its basically the same card right?

    theriko is right.

ever since GF cards moved to SM3.0/HDR (in the Geforce 7 series).
... no soft quadro mod worked.
