I know nvidia released their own drivers for the 7xxx series mobile cards but it seemed that they went back to letting the manufacturers make their own drivers for the 8700s and such.

Does anyone know if nvidia plans on releasing official drivers for the 8XXX mobile series cards?

I think that was part of the success of the 7XXX mobile series of cards the fact that they used official nvidia drivers and not modified or customized drivers.

I think the 8700 for example would run way better if nvidia released drivers that supported the mobile series.

Unless I don't have my facts straight, nvidia releases a new driver version and modders and manufacurers alike have to modify them to work with their mobile cards. To me, this may work but it seems less efficient than an official driver release that supported the mobile gpus.

    Any thoughts?

You don't have your facts straight.

Most modded drivers from LV2G.com are just official ones with a tiny piece of code attached that allows them to recognize mobile cards.

I understand that but they may not be optimized for the mobile cards. I will fully admit that I am no driver master and I fully admit that I am not an authority on the issue.

Did some research and it seems that they do not support mobile cards because of special features (lid closing and so on) found on laptops vs desktops.

But, are all of the other features of the driver still the same for mobile cards vs desktops? Basically, asside these features are there any other optimizations that are needed for a driver to work really well with a mobile card vs a desktop one?

I guess I started this thread to get a better understanding on this topic as well so poke holes in what I post if you see it. :)

They have to enter in the mobile card identities, like stock speeds and the such. Everything else is kept similar.

Ahh I see. I was just checking because my 5700go (I know I know its way dated) is using the manufacturer drivers because when I use modified ones my perfomance actually decreases. Perhaps there is something different being that it is older but that is why I was wondering.
