i keep reading about this mysterious FN + F1 function that's supposed to control your fan speeds. how do i know it's even working when i press the keys together? or is this a model-specific type of thing? i've been hitting it once in a while during my Rift sessions and i haven't noticed any differences, or notices.

I don't know if this is make or model specific, but try Fn+1 (not F1). Does that set your fans to max (and again to turn them off)?
-
in my present laptop it is fn+1. in my old sager 8690 its didnt have that functionality ( setting fans to max).
id really like a 'widget' on the desktop that tells me whether the fans are on max or not. -
In my 8150, there is an audible boost in fan speed/power when fn+1 is used. The difference between fn+1, and when the laptop is just at load, is very noticeable.

hmmm...i might have to get some kind of program that can monitor fan power percentage then. is there a good (free) program that u guys recommend, that can do that? that would be great if the said program can display a little FPS monitor while i'm gaming.
and sorry i meant to say FN+1, not FN+F1. FN+F1 turns the trackpad on and off. -
Edit: Forgot about HWiNFO32 and HWMonitor as well sorry. -
as for the FPS while gaming, i used to use rivatuner with my 8600M GTX equipped XPS m1530. i might just see go see if it supports my GPU when i have a bit of time. -
HWiNFO32 shows you A LOT of info. There's always HWMonitor as well.
-
Even at idle Fn+1 will set the fans to max. If it isn't happening, the W880CU is not equipped with the functionality.
-
i use hwinfo32 and although it has a column for gpu fan it always shows the fan speed at 100% so its obviously not reading it right.
i dont know if you guys have got it to show actual fans speeds with the 485m -
NP5792 here. Fan max speed setting is Fn+1. Fn+F1 is the touch pad.
What kind of heat are you generating while in Rift? -
honestly, i was just wondering about the FN+1 function since i read about it. just seeing if that's a model specific feature or it's more of a sager thing. that's all.
now...if only i could get my stupid GPU driver to stop crashing. -
Well, I do have to say that the downside to using max fan speed seems to be that whe I do it my video card ends up under volted, since I benchmark slightly lower when I use it than when I don't. Cant think of any other reason...
-
I checked the User Manual. The notebook does not have a max fan setting.
-
Yes, some of the Clarksfield Clevo laptops don't have that BIOS feature.
It is not an exclusive Sager feature, although Sager may receive better BIOS updates than other Clevo resellers (see M570RU case). -
im always using max fan cause i live in a tropical country and gpu voltage is 1.00v as it should be during gpu intensive stuff.
Question about FN + F1 or Fan Control
