I use Prema's modded BIOS in my P170EM. GPU temps are down by 10C. On stock BIOS the GPU was reaching 89C before the maximum fan speed was set. With Prema's BIOS the GPU reaches 80C, fan kicks in, and the GPU stays at 80C, even in FurMark. My GPU runs at 940/1400 clocks.

How much more aggressive are the fans on idle? I like having them kick in sooner when hot, but when I'm just browsing I would like them to be quiet.

Once you get Prema;s BIOS, you wont want to go back. Ever.

Ive used v1.0 for my model, then jumped to the newest version (with turbo fan option).
Man, the laptop got its turbo boost unlocked, I got silent operation under normal browsing (fan used to kick in at 40'C) and my system performs 10 times better overall.
    Its magical...

I understand that. However, in the event that I need to RMA my computer or for whatever reason, then is there an issue since I have a Sager BIOS?

Flashing custom firmware does void your warranty, you could always backup your current bios if you want to return it to its original state.

Maybe P170EM version differs slightly from the P150EM version (i.e. the fan profile in EC is different).

Only Prema knows it for sure. :)
