Do all of the Sager / Celvo notebooks use the standard MXM video cards ?? The reason I ask is that I am interested in purchasing a M860TU. I know currently the fastest GPU it will support is a Nvidia 9800M GT, but in the future if an ATI 4850 / 4870 Mobility *ever* came out in MXM format even from another manufacture will it fit and work in the M860TU if I were to want to upgrade ??? Thanks for any info. God Bless :)

Theres a 99.9% chance that you'll never be able to get this card in your system. Clevo cards only fit Clevo machines, and they don't have any plans of releasing any ATI cards for this model.

I'm confused, What's the point of Clevo using MXM-IV/MXM-III standard if only Clevo Cards fits on clevo machines ?
So does this mean we will be able to upgrade our laptops only if clevo give us their blessing ? if this is the case, they will likely force us to buy new models instead of just upgrading.

and I thought I invested my money on something upgradeable :S

The standardized MXM Type IV slot found in current Clevo notebooks has the following cards to choose from:

    Geforce M (mobile):
    - 7950GTX
    - 8700M GT
    - 8800M GTX
    - 9800M GTS
    - 9800M GT
    - 9800M GTX

    Quadro FX:
    - 1600M
    - 1700M... pending
    - 2700M... pending
    - 3700M... pending

People may think they videocards that are found in Clevo's are only for Clevos.... that is mainly true because Clevo was the first and maybe the only ODM that used the new Nvidia technology in their notebooks.... although there are a few systems (AW notebooks) that looked to have adopted the MXM IV slot or variation of it.

People may say what every they want, but the fact is:

The slot only started with 7950GTX... now about 10 cards and increasing.

The MXM Type IV is the most advanced Nvidia module with the best power rating, upgrade choices, etc... for a notebook.

Nvidia and ATI makes the videocard modules (not Clevo) and Clevo tests them on their systems to make sure they are stable and performs well... so if Clevo feels that the card is not stable or is not worth it, they will not support it.

For the time being, no notebooks (other than Clevo's) on the market have as many choices for videocards.

The last revision for the MXM Type IV systems was when the 8800M GTX came out and Clevo needed to add/modify their motherboard to fully support it.... but after than, Nvidia seems to have not required anything new for MXM-IV systems to support the upcoming cards.

To sum up, if you are looking for something with the most potential for upgradable video cards, Clevo is your best choice. No other notebook manufacturer comes close.
