Hello, just wondering from all you Sager NP5793's owners if the touchpad on this laptop is at all like HP's touch pads. I call them(HP's) sticky because if you even have alittle sweat or oil on your finger, the touch pad is hard to use.

I am considering buying this model and have not had the opportunity to see one in real life.

So to sum it up, Does Sager NP5793 have a smooth gliding touch pad =)?

    Thanks for any help.

note: I posted this in another forum, but got directed here .

I had a 5793 for about a week before i returned it for the more powerful 9262. While i had it i thought the touchpad was smooth. I had 2 problems with it. I kept getting shocked bad when i touched it, i assumed this was due to the fingerprint reader. (i have read other threads about this here) I also kept getting the left/right scroll feature i think i was pulling my finger down to much on the pad. The 9262 is absent the fingerprint reader (although i really liked that feature) so no shocky shocky anymore and although i haven't checked out the dimmensions to see if the touchpad on the 9262 is bigger i no longer have problems with the autoscroll feature turning on when i don't want it to. Just my 2 cents.

    Sager NP9262 Specs-
    - 17" WUXGA LCD (1920 x 1200)
    - Q6600 / 8MB L2 Cache, 2.40GHz, 1066MHz FSB

    - VISTA Home Premium 32/64-Bit Edition
    - 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM

On the 5793, would the autoscroll feature turn on even if you had previously turned it off in the touchpad configuration control panel? I had the same problem with a capricious, hair-trigger autoscroll on the vaio until I turned it off in the control panel (although updating the touchpad driver reset everything).

No, it will not. If I disable the touchpad, even after reactivating, there is no scrolling ability left until a reboot occurs.

The touchpad is above average, not your best one, but has a certain soft touch to it and it is not slippery, even if you sweat a bit lol :D

See my review of the Sager NP5793 - here's what I thought about the touchpad:
It is not like the HP touchpads at all, if your finger is damp or whatever it will not stick to it. Sager has great toucpads.

Well, it also depends on what HP laptops we are talking about.
By comparing my bussiness class HP with my Sager, the Sager is just about as good in the touchpad as the HP, but a bit behind.
Bussiness class laptops are made for heavy endurance, whereas a gaming laptops is more inclined towards performance. Not that the build quality wouldn`t be just as close :D

I was referring to the consumer HP touchpads for the record, like the ones you find in Best Buy.

The pavilion series, I know what you mean.
To be honest though, I don`t use the touchpad unless on battery mode. ButI like the fact the when you push the buttons you have to apply a bit of pressure and that the touchpad is not slippery at all. Although it`s not the best in the world, it does the job nicely.

IMO, the touchpad on mine is better than that of the ones on my dads Precision M90

TBH, my experience with the M570RU touchpad, havent been to the downside ;)

As Chaz says, it has a texture feel and make your fingers "stick" to it, not just slide over it as most laptops ive owned/used tends to do :) All in all, it does its job, better than my old Acer and Fujitsu ;)
