Can't speak from an everyday end-user's orientation, but from hands-on experience: the W230Sx doesn't feel as solid as the P series, but it does feel more durable than much of the rest of the W series. At under 5 lbs, it doesn't feel cumbersome by any means, either. There are no custom keyboard protectors for this particular keyboard that we're aware of, but there may be generic ones that fit it. :) And thus far, we haven't received any complaints on battery life - neither in terms of from one discharge cycle to the next, nor is excessive wear reported after a few months.

Hopefully this review and others' personal feedback will help too!

Wow, those are all so speculative and "depends" answers.

It's only 4.5 lbs, lighter than most other laptops, plus it's smaller size makes it easy to handle with one hand. As far as durability I would definitely get a cushioned sleeve or bag if you're going to throw it in your backpack. As far as a drop, it all depends on how you drop it, but it's not designed to be dropped, like 99% of laptops out there. There are no keyboard protectors out there that I am aware of either. The only wear my laptop had after a year is paint rubbing off the palm rest.

I don't take my laptop outside of home much, but use it around the house and backyard a lot, and when I do take it, it has it's own bag and as with anything of value, I treat it with care. I'm not ginger with it, just am cognizant not to throw other stuff on top of it.

As far as battery life, all depends on how much you use it on battery. After a year of maybe 15-20 total battery cycles (as in total 100% drains, even if 10% here, 40% there, with recharges in between), it has only about 6% battery capacity lost. But if you use it daily on battery, then that will drop a lot more.

Most of your questions seem to be about durability of the laptop. If you throw it around without care, it will likely get damaged. If you want that peace of mind, then buy a Panasonic Toughbook.

It helps to leave a question up rather than delete it so if others have a similar question this thread would come up in a search.
