I just got a replacement card for my Geforce 8800M GTX. The new card is a Geforce 9800M GT. The drivers are the same from nvidia but when I just replace the cards the screen is black for the new card. There are no beeps and it seems like the system is starting up just without visuals. Is there anything else I need to do in order to properly switch out the cards? Like resetting the BIOs?

Do you have the latest BIOS + EC for your system? It sounds like its not being detected properly.

hmm that's doubtful that I have the latest bios. I don't know what EC stands for. so I probably don't have that either. I have never updated the bios for this computer and it was built in Feb '08. Is there a good place to find the new bios? And also whatever EC is. Is there a good place for that?

EC is the embedded controller / keyboard controller basically it the chip that makes all the fan's etc go.

Honestly I would reach out to where you purchased the laptop from they should be able to get you the latest BIOS/EC for your system.
