Hopefully my 9150 will arrive here in a couple of weeks and I want to know how best to transfer my data to it. Currently I have an external hard drive that I run steam and some other random crap off of. I'd rather have everything from there on my computer, wipe it, then use that drive for backups.

Would it simply a case of copying the files, then wiping the drive or is there maybe a quicker way?

Also for everything on my computer now, would a LAN transfer of the stuff I want be a good idea?

You can copy and paste all moveable files like pics, docs, music, movies etc. For installed programs like Steam you will have to reinstall those.

A LAN will be the best way to transfer your files from your old computer you will have to go through a router or have a crossover cable to directly connect the computers.

actually you can just copy the game files, then when you go to reinstall them, they will be there already and it will just act like it downloaded it really quick.

To transfer Steam and all the games, just install Steam on the new drive and overwrite the new Steam directory with the one off the external drive.

The save games may be located all over the place in your user folder.

If the game is properly Steam powered, it will upload save games to the cloud that you can access from any computer. If not, they will likely be floating around your Documents folder.

The steam game files are kept in my documents or the steam folder in program files. Depends on the game.
