When I opened the box, there wasn't a packing slip or anything that lists what came with the bundle. There wasn't even an instruction book.
When I turned on the PC for the first time, I got a Windows Recovery Console (the safe boot, safe boot with command prompt, etc), saying that the computer wasn't shut down properly before or something.
Then about 15 minutes into running the computer, I got a popup saying that Windows Explorer wasn't running properly or something and so explorer had to restart or something.
What's up with this? I thought xoticpc and powernotebooks were good companies?

From which one did you buy?

Sounds like they were in a rush to ship it out, forgot the slip, instructions, and shut it off before the windows installation process was complete.

The Sager 2096 (Compal JHL90) does not come with a manual in paper form. (It is on the Driver CD). Sager unfortunately does not include a packing slip. If you have questions on what you received or how to view what specifications are in your new system, it would be best to contact your seller and they can help you out.
(or contact support if you are having any problems)
Regarding the shut down, it could have been shut down through the start menu and maybe didn't complete the shut down procedure before it powered off? Shouldn't be anything to worry about. -
The resellers do not ship the systems they go directly from SAger to the customer. Sager does not ship a packing slip that tells you what is in the box or in the "bundle" like say dell or alienware would. They just ship the laptop, carrying case (if it applies to your brand), power brick/cord, cds and thats about it. They do not ship an instruction book. They should have put it an users manual though of the laptop telling you pretty how to take apart the laptop what is located where etc... And the Windows recovery console is there for every Sager laptop that gets shipped out. It happens like that because they use their own Vista CD to test the laptop. they uninstall that and then install the Vista/OS you ordered, and then when the screen where it says enter your name etc... they just turn it off there so that you can pick it up from there. That screen where it says windows has not shut down properly is normal for powering up Sager laptops for the first time. The explorer thing might have been something you did while installing an app or something so see if it keeps on recurring. Everything else you mentioned is normal.
I have purchased 2 Sager laptops and both times on the first power up i had the windows has not shut down properly message, and my laptop is working perfectly. -
For the explorer thing, I did not install anything. I was only browsing around the computer seeing what was already installed.
I bought mine from XoticPC.
There was also this slip in chinese with a table on it and certain boxes in the table checked. What is that for? -
I guess it’s different from vendor to vendor, or from reseller to reseller. Mine was shipped with an operating manual for the notebook and vista, alone with the carrying case and the other stuff that comes with it. I also had a packing slip that was checked marked off of what the system had, with three stickers on the bottom of the unit that had quality control phase 1-3. Definitely didn't get the computer was not shut off properly?? -
i got mine with the 'not shut off properly' screen too.. but its running fine.. so i guess there's nothing to worry about..
hmm as for the chinese paper thing, get someone who can read chinese? =/
