Looking to get the SAGER NP5790 in the next month or so and I'm wondering what kind of performance boost I will be looking at if I go with the WSXGA instead of the WUXGA screen. It really doesnt matter that much to me on the resolution just want the best playability I can get for my money. Dropping the extra money on the WUXGA is no big deal because the unit itself is actually priced very well.

WUXGA will give you more real estate in the desktop and general computing tasks, allowing you to fit more onto the screen. The flip side of this is of course, if you HAVE to run games at native resolution, your performance will suffer, though at such a high resolution you can balance this by turning down anti-aliasing. WSXGA+ is a fine resolution IMO, but the Sager NP5790's experiencing delays with WSXGA+ screens so take that into consideration as well.
With WUXGA, I think it's a good choice as it's a very high resolution for the desktop, the quality exceeds 1080p resolution and if you were to run games, you can always run games at non-native resolution such as WSXGA+, albeit, with slight blurriness (I don't notice the difference too much, so I don't think it's a huge issue). -
As Syntax said, you can just tone down the resolution on games. The difference is barely noticeable. The only time I ever saw it was on the edges of boxes in FEAR, and only when I looked reeeeeally closely.
Side note: I just made the funniest joke ever!
Did you hear about the Sock army? They said they would not accept defeet! (Defeat, the feet... I was ROFLing really hard.) -

Running games (or anything for that matter) at non-native resolutions is a poor way to go IMO. You need more antialiasing for things to look reasonable which just hurts performance even more. If you need maximum framerates, wait for the WSXGA. I'm always a fan of screen real estate myself, so I got the WUXGA.

Really dont mind waiting , god knows I've got plenty of things to cover my time with here lately . Just never used a 17 inch laptop before and dont wanna put down money for the laptop and not have it reach expectations. I would like to know if going with the WUXGA and running it in native resolution with games such as fear , doom3, and soon Starcraft2 and Fallout3 is gonna over tax the single 9750gtx or if it has enough power to run the course and then some. Cause if it doesn't wanna go the distance with the WUXGA i'll lump it and get the WSXGA which to me is only alittle bit of bragging rights since I haven't extensively used the screen myself

poor way how? if you can show me the difference in quality with a picture between the WSXGAs native resolution and the WUXGA under the same resolution in a game, I will be swindled. Like a few members said, the loss of quality on a non-native WUXGA resolution is very minimal and barely noticable.

Consider LCD TV manufacturers do not do 1080p on anything less than 40". There may be exceptions but they will be the exceptions.
Juts some food for thought for whatever it's worth. -
Another way I'm tryin to look at it is exactly how many more fps you get going with wsxga instead of wuxga cause if its like 5 or so I mean come on , I'll drop the money easy for the larger resolution. just dont wanna kick myself when some new game comes out later and it stutters bad enough for me to say gee if I had only gone with the wsxga then I'll still be happy. probably a redundant question that has been asked before but I've gone through the forums for months now and not seen it
Question about which screen to buy
