Now I know this should be in the graphics cards forum, but since Dexgo just recently acquired a clevo, Im infering that he's floating around here generally. So mods, please leave this here until I get my query answered. PLEEEEASE???
Now, dexgo. You had a 7900 gtx or something similar correct (I remember reading somewhere a while back before I joined and was just spectating these forums)? And you OCed it to the max right? And you fried it right? AND you kept it OCed all the time, right? Well if all these conditions are true, then my question is this: How long did your card last before you fried it? Because Im thinking about OCing my card, but I want it to last a decent while (say 3-4 years). Now I guess you could say Im just shy of being an enthusiest gamer. I play at least every other day with new gen to previous gen games (e.g. oblivion, crysis, etc.). I plan on keeping JUST my video card at 566/873. Stock speeds are 500/799. Do you think that would be pushing it for my lifetime expectancy?
This is also kind of a general question, but does anyone who has a 9262 had problems with downclocking?
Thx

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
HI
I don't think graphic card can take much unlike CPU's.
But let the master answer it -
untill the master answers you could probably pull 540/850 with little damage for now.
-
Np, its a pretty general question, so any input from anybody will also be helpful. I'd just like to hear dexgos opinion specifically cuz he literally cooked his gpu lol.
-
every card in notebooks that i've ocd has died.
-
with these good cooling system in Clevo D900C i dont think that these strong gpu will fried easy i have M1710 with 7950GTX overclocked 650-850 with great artifact in ATITool but with fine external cooling system i play with it 18months and now the notebook its in great shape i mean that d900c have better (the best cooling system for notebook) and if you have good external cooling you dont have to worry that your card will fried with proper use

Dexgo OC's another card:
-
^Lol.
Yea, but you must keep in mind. Dexgo OCed the crap out of those cards, we`re not talking 10% here, but max possible
A 10% OCed card should be ok for about 3 years if heat and dust are taken care of. -
yup, my last 2 card that I oc'd lasted about 4-6 months.
7900gtx and a 7950gtx.
my fx2500m I put asside so I could sell my m1710 before I destroyed that too.
I did oc the crap out of them hehe -
4-6 months? yikes. that is hardly what i would call a stable OC...
-
Oooh. Maybe I'll just OC a little bit when playing dx10 games lol. And thats it. How often should I dust them (compressed air should do, right?)?
-
"I bow to you, oh OC-lord of the north. Praise be Dexgo! ALTAR BOY! Fetch me a sacrifice...."
Altar Boy: "One 8800 on the way, padre."
lol thx guys

Dust cleanup? monthly to be sure.

I'll look for it. Dwai : )

Coolio, thx. Though I am a little reluctant to open up my new 9262, and I've nvr seen the guts of a laptop, thus I've nvr opened one up lol.
-
-
Thx. But one more question: won't opening it up void the warranty?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
Opening up the laptop does not void your warranty.
-
-
LOL. He wants to overcleck the video card and he is worried about loosing the warranty becasue of opening it.
PL -
Well I only planned on profile ocing, like just with Crysis. And i only OC it to 530/840, and ONLY when I'm using DX10.
-
can you overclock it through software or you need some special drivers?
-
I have a modded driver. It is SO much better than stock, and I haven't had any problems with it thus far. I've had it for a week. With stock speeds on the stock drivers that came with the disc, I had about 9550 in 3dmark06 (professional if that makes a dif), and when I downloaded this newer one and installed it, I had 10250! Then I OCed it at (I think) 540/845 and got 10821 (I remember the score). It's a good egg of a driver.
P.S. I have Win XP SP2 and the modded driver is "NVIDIA Forceware Mobile Driver v169.04 (32bit XP)".
Pimpaholic -
only a 600 point increase in 3dmark? that seems weak.
did you test it with real games, like crysis benchmark? -
Nope.
600? I like that increase. Then again Im always looking for a little bit more, so Im easily impressed with small increments, although I don't think 600 is TOO small...
Where is the crysis benchmarking tool? Is it integrated into the game itself and accessed through the console? -
yes go into the bin folder of the game and you will see a gpu batch file. run that and it will auto run the built in benchmark. it would be good if you run it before and after the overclock. this is the ultimate benchmark, imo, better than synthetic 3dmark. the benchmark will run it with whatever settings you have in game currently.
-
K I'll try it out.
-
Here are my results. I OCed to 545/865. All settings to HIGH (I couldn't use the dx10 launcher cuz the benchmark utility initiated the original crysis executable). The res is set to 1440 x 900 and vsync is on.
P.S. I am using the natural mod from Pydon. It states that it doesn't have any effect on performance, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.
