Ok,
I received my laptop last friday and I am very impressed with it. Quality and workmanship is top notch... equivalent to sony's viao lineup. It is extremely fast and I am able to run Crysis flawlessly at native resolution with everything in high. However I am disturbed by the high temperature of the hard drive. I reached over 64C while playing COD5 and Crysis last night. And I idle around 55C. I updated my drivers, followed Goph thread on how to lower the HDD temps by disabling a bunch of stuff in vista. I am using it on the Cryo LX and it is not lowering the Hard drive temps. My final option is to open holes where the hard drive is.
I was wondering if this is a problem with select few or is it for every NP8662.
Or is it isolated to a brand. My Hdd is Fujitsu 250gb 5400rpm.
Can you tell me if you have the same problem and what brand is your HDD? and what is your max temp?

It happened to a lot of people, nobody found a real solution but 64C for a 5400rpm is a lot. You can try to ask your reseller to send you another brand HD it helped in my case by about 5C. Also I realised that HD temp is directly related to room temperature in a 17C room mine idle at 45C in a 25C room it idle at about 53C.

I think it might be related to a specific brand/model because I received my NP8662 about a week ago and my hdd temps are perfectly normal. And mine's a 7200 rpm..
Right now it is at 35 degrees
But if I'm using my laptop alot it'll idle at around 45 and when playing l4d or running 3d mark it tops at 52.
You are not the first to have this issue tho, and I suggest speaking with whoever you got the laptop from, because your idle temps are higher than my max temps lol
I think 65 and over are dangerous temps, especially for a new lappy.
Btw I have the 320GB 7200 rpm, and room temperature is 20 -

Run a full error scan on HD Tune. That is the best way to find the real full load temperature of your hard drive.
