HI, got a question for you all if we can upgrade the NVIDIA 8800M GTX SLI in our Sager NP9261 do you think we need to get a bigger power supply or our current power supply would work with that card?

Current supply sould work, all you have to do is switch the cards.

I dont know how big it is, but assuming the info on the MXM port being a Type IV is correct, it should handle the power requirements of a Type III with no hassle whatsoever.

The new 8800M GTX as more akin to the 8800GT than the 8800GTX, therefore it is built on a 65nm process. Because of this, it uses less power than the 8700GT, and that is why Alienware is featuring a 15.4" model with the 8800M.

Hi, Charr so it use less power then the 8700 GT but it still produce more power then the 8700GT right. Does anyone know how much performance do we get vs SLI 7950?

i think the 8800 will be around 30% faster than the 7950, with less heat.

although there are some people speculating that one 8800 will be faster than two 7950's in sli, which seems a little awkward to me.

The power requirement for a 7950 GTX is 44 watts. The 8800M GTX is only at 37 and the GTS is even lower. So it is safe to assume that yes, currently they can easily provide enough power.

According to NVIDIA, it is. Check out the graphs - http://anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.aspx?i=3155&p=4

Take what NVIDIA states for a grain of salt, until we actually see benchmarks from other sites, this will have to do.

we should not need a psu upgrade the 8800 requires less power to run then the current 8700 or 7950 so i cant see why they would say it does.

That's fantastic, I'm upgrading from the 7950 (only one) to 2 8800 GTX.

My notebook was built to SLI 7950 so, it should have no problem getting the 8800 inside.

AWESOME, this made my day! I was all worried about this.

Hear that? it's the sound of Crysis shaking in it's little hardware killing boots.
