Hey guys, so I am thinking about getting the Sager NP8170 which seems like a really good laptop except for its short battery life. I realize that pretty much all gaming laptops sacrifice battery life for performance, and I am fine with that since 2-3 hours isnt all that bad, but I was wondering whether or not it would be possible to upgrade the original battery to something stronger and also if it would be worth it to do so? Just wanted to hear you opinions regarding this.

    EDIT

The 2-3 hours of battery life is when you are doing things like browsing the web and not anything too intensive, right?

I see. Well thats too bad I guess. One more question. Would there be a significant difference in battery life betwen the 15" and 17" models?

If you need better battery life, then you have no choice but alienware.

No I mean battery life isn't hugely important for me but it would be nice to have. If not though, not a big deal.

I have one last question I was hoping you could answer. I noticed in a couple of threads here that some people take out their laptop's batteries when its plugged in? What is the purpose of doing that?

Keeps the battery healthier, when its constantly overcharged and constantly charging it will wear the battery (meaning it won't last as long as time goes on)

It also prevents the battery from getting warm / hot as well
Many batteries die from over charging and the heat it receives, especially with gaming.

But that also depends on how the laptops designed on dissipating heat and the cooler you're using.

It theoretically extends the life of the battery - but most batteries should last you easily 3-5 years used or not. If you don't use it, then it's not worth having really. In notebooks like these, they're really just useful as backup power if you lose mains since they can't run the GPU/CPU at full speed anyway.
