I've been checking out this forum for sometime after learning about the Sager 5720 and I've decided that this is the laptop for me. I'm just about ready to buy one but I've run into 2 areas that I need help with at the customization process.

1st, is it worth getting the zero dead pixel policy? Did anyone else do this? How many people have actually gotten dead pixels?

2nd, is it worth extending the warranty? I was considering purchasing an additional year of warranty. How is sager's long term quality. It seems everyone loves their Sager's when they get them, but how do they fare 1-2 yrs from now?

    Thanks all! :D

To me, it's $200 down the drain. The pixels are so small, who cares? If you have so much money you can max out the thing and easily afford the warranty, it might be right for you.

And of course, mine had no dead pixels

Agreed with steMo, it is definitely not worth it to upgrade to the No dead pixel gurantee. I have no dead pixels on my Sager, perfect display.

It depends on who you extend the warranty from. If you are getting the Phillips Magnavox extended warranty, that's a waste. They are unreliable from what I am hearing. However, some dealers offer their own extended warranty, and that usually pretty good. DiscountLaptops is one who does.

Excellent choice on a notebook. If you need help configuring it, we can help you there as well. ;)

    Thanks,
    Chaz

Thanks for the feedback...ok, so i scrapped the zero dead pixel policy. As for now, this is what I am considering from discountlaptops.com

    Sager 5720

17" TFT WUXGA (1920x1200) Glare Type Display
2.26 GHz Intel Pentium M (780) Processor (2 MB Cache, Sonoma)
    256MB GDDR3 nVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 GTX PCI-Express 16x
    2048 MB DDR2 SDRAM
80 GB 7200 rpm SATA hardrive
    8X DVD±R/RW / 4X+Dual Layer / 5X DVD-RAM / CD-RW Multi Drive (Pioneer DVR-k16)

Everything else was the default option.

I am still debating whether or not to extend the warranty for one more year.

Considering that it seems the processor seems to be the limiting factor on this laptop compared to a desktop, I figured maxing the ram and getting a 7200 rpm SATA hard drive would ease the processor up some. It may be overkill but I would like this thing to last at least 2.5 - 3 years (beyond that I don't expect anything to keep up with current stuff) and I'm pretty big on gaming.

    How does this setup seem?

On another note, do you think there will be a big difference in the new 64 bit processors with Windows Vista coming out this year in terms of gaming as compared to what's out now?

Thanks for all the help guys!

That's an extremely powerful notebook. The CPU will most certainly not be the limiting factor...the 2.26GHz Penium M will be equivalent to a 3.8GHz Pentium 4. It's the fastest mobile processor avaliable.

64-bit is not something I would factor into my buying decision.

If you can afford that setup, I'd go for it.

About 64 bit! The key to being able to use the 64 bit features of Vista will be determined by the drivers. Another issue is just when will Vista be released they have allready eliminated some new features in order to reach their mid 2006 goal for release. I heard they were going to release IE 7.0 before Vista and its not out yet (except in Beta). When Vista is released it will be released in 32 bit and 64 bit. You may be want in buy another laptop by the time Vista is bug free.
