Hi again I posted a few days ago about the Sager NP8662 and I very nearly got one. However my friend, who is the owner of a NP8660, offered me his laptop at a reduced price the night before I ordered! (luck favoured me! :D )

However before I buy I pose the same questions as before but apply them to the NP8660.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=387746

    The laptop has:
    T9900 (3.06Ghz)
    9800M GTS (
    WUXGA(1920x1200)
    4GB RAM

Again I would be greatful for any responses.

    WUXGA screens are usually by LG.Philips / 16ms / 500:1 or 600:1

yes you will have to upgrade (swap out) the motherboard for it to have quad-core support.... which is the only difference between revision.

the first notebook motherboard revision still supports the newer videocards, like GTX 260M. ;)

For how much is he selling the computer?

If there isn't much difference... go with 8662, obviously!

I have a misgiving about the 9800M GTS. It is even less powerful than the 9800M GT. If you decide to upgrade the GPU, it is about $480 for the 260GTX right now.

For games, GPU is more important than CPU.

You can get a pretty formidable NP8662 configuration for $1500 or so.

How much you're buying it for is the most important factor to be weighed in the advice you wish to receive.

    So?

It can't be less than $1200 because of the T9900 (and WUXGA screen).

BTW, you haven't mentioned HDD size, rpm, etc.

    and OS-

    Thanks for the replies guys.
I got back to my friend about the laptop. While I was discussing the deal I asked him why he was wanting to sell his laptop so cheap ($1500). It turns out it is his first 15.4" and it is to big for him, however the other reason was that there are some dead/stuck pixels (about 4) and he can't stand them. The thing is neither can I!!! Before I had one stuck pixel (red) on my Dell and it drove me up the wall.
Anyway I declined the offer and am now going to go ahead and buy new.
Question (AGAIN!): I saw the thread about 40nm nvidia and was wondering will future graphics cards (the 40nm ones) fit in the NP8662 (or NP8660).

    Thanks again.

Why not? Will the graphics cards have different connectors?

    Yes.

The GTX 260M is the end of the line for the M860TU.

So the only difference between M860TU/NP8660 and M860ETU/NP8662 is the motherboard?

Are the chassis and cooling systems all the same?

Does NP8662 bios work on NP8660? Because there's a bios listed for NP8660 in the Clevo Bios thread but the filename is 8662bv217s.zip

And if GTX260 is the end of the line for video card upgrades for this platform, what about the ATi HD4xxx which is still MXM III? No go?

    Thanks

Are there any ATi offerings surpassing 280M?

And a new BIOS still won't make M860TU accept quad-core?

Hardware limit, not a bios can solve that problem.

What's the highest processor the M860TU/8660 can take, X9100 extreme edition or whatever?

X9100 or T9900. E8435 also works but not recommended.
