    1. How does the warranty work for people who live in Canada.

    2. How much extra does it cost to ship to Canada? Do we have to pay custom charges?

    Welcome to the forums! :)

    1. You have to pay shipping in and XOTIC PC will pay shipping back to you during your warranty period. :)
    2. We have Ground or Express options to Canada. (Express saves you the brokerage fee's). You will have to pay taxes on it when it is delivered.

Concerning option #2, I have confirmed today with UPS that you can specify, upon the arrival of your package in Canada (I'd suggest specifying it with the retailer, such as XoticPC while ordering), to handle the customs clearance yourself. Doing so will result in only paying taxes. Therefore, you can save the brokerage fee by ground shipping.

What you actually have to do is fill in a bunch of papers and have those approved. My recommendation is to call UPS before, and verify that this option is available from where you live.

Does the website tell you what the brokerage fees are when you order?

    You have to pay more.

    http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shipping/cost/zones/customs_clearance.html

Here's a rough estimates at the prices. Don't forget to add taxes.

Darn, almost feels like a top secret agency you're working for :D

So would this be the final price with all the taxes and shipping included?

Yeah it is, unless you handle the customs yourself and you won't have to pay any of that 70$. I strongly suggest you call UPS. It takes less than 5 minutes and you'll have all your answers concerning custom clearance.

This does not include taxes, afaik.

Sorry, I stepped away. As Corbs stated calling UPS will provide you with the most accurate estimate on taxes. (800) 782-7892

Why does a website not include taxes in their final checkout O_O? Isn't that kind of... dumb?

Stores don't charge these taxes... This is charged by your country when it crosses the border. (not by the company)

Well, if the website isn't obliged to collect any taxes, wouldn't it be really dumb (not to mention dishonest and fraudulent) for that website to include those taxes?

Does that system apply to all overseas warranty returns or only to Canada?

So am I understanding this right... if you go with the $57 ground option you're looking at $71.45 in brokerage fees... or you can pay the $100 or whatever it was for express... then you don't pay the broker fee and actually save money? And these brokerage fees are despite the fact that there are no duties on laptops?

I have received a couple PM's/emails about custom charges (in a attempt to avoid taxes). By falsifying export documents (which is against the law) would jeopardize our ability to export in the future. Since export is a significant part of our business, we cannot do it. :( We keep everything by the books. ;)

Does that shipping policy apply to international buyers.
i.e If my machine broke and sent it to xoticpc/ sager for repairs does that mean i only have to pay one way and you guys will pay for the return journey?

Guys, please keep the discussion legal. Evading taxes/customs is not legal. Thanks.

People reading this; don't just automatically assuming that something is illegal because it isn't fully understood. ie: If you use itemized deductions on your tax returns, it may take more time, but could reduce your taxes could it not? Nothing we do is illegal, and we are not condoning anything of the sort.

If one was reducing customs duties legally then there shouldn't be a problem. It all depends on how much you have done it and if you understand how the system works in the country you are shipping to. In another thread I posted the 22 countries that we have notebooks in. That post is gone. If it were still there, it could help you decide for yourself our level of experience. CANADA isn't something I consider overseas. It is not difficult. South Africa, Nepal... that is difficult.

We don't ship to Canada so we don't have a dog in this fight.

However there should be no duties on shipments to Canada for products manufactured in the US.

Canadians would still have to pay whatever applicable GST/PST is appropriate to their location and transaction, and there is the possibility of having to pay brokerage to a company that handles the paperwork for them. This can be avoided by shipping either Expedited or Express where the brokerage is part of the shipping fee, or by doing the customs clearing yourself.

Any falsification of shipping or customs documents in any way is illegal and should be avoided.

There is no magic to it.

^ That is exactly correct Donald. GST/PST is common and should be expected when shipping to International Locations. There are not many countries we have not shipped to and refuse to do anything other then keeping it by the books.

Your experience and wisdom is welcomed.
Don, you said you didn't ship outside of the U.S. so this is geared more towards Justin who wrote
People reading this may be looking at purchasing a system for shipment outside of the U.S. and it could save a lot of PM's and emails if there were a thread of the countries you don't ship to ( since that list would be shorter than the ones you do according to what you posted.)
