Hi,
I am in the process of deciding which laptop to purchase and have several questions. I am likely to purchase from reflexnotebook to avoid extra costs.
Here are some of my questions:
1-I see you have student / military / cash payment discounts available but cannot find any information on what they are exactly. The models I am considering buying are either the NP8170 or NP5175. Are they eligible and what sort of discounts are we looking at? You can PM me this info if its something not published publicly.
2-I dont get your hassle free warranty. What are the benefits of using this for $70 as opposed to take the 2way ground shipping option for $30.
3-Would there be a huge difference in performance going up from i5-2450M to i7-2670QM? The laptop would be shared with my wife...her for work and programming and me for gaming mostly.
4-Are there any upgrade options available on the NP5175 in regards to the video card...IE from the 555m to a 560m.
5-further to 4, are there huge performance differences between the 555m and the 560m? I dont need to play games at full settings but I want to ensure I am capable of playing most games for the next 2 years on it.
6-Are there any options for backlit keyboards around the $1000 range that I am missing or is it a feature that can be added in?
I believe this is it for now...I will add other questions if I think of any.
Thank you kindly,
Kezz

You can send a mail directly to reflex, i'm pretty sure they will be happy to answer your questions.
-
I suggest you e-mail to reflex as well. They reply their email once a day.
The hassle free warranty is a warranty from reflexnotebook. If you don't purchase it, you have to deal with sager US. As for the 2way ground shipping option, i assume it as a coverage for shipment fees. 555/560 has quite a big differece. There is no back-light keyboard for current sager models.
I recently purchased a np8170. You can buy the warranty 30?60? days after your laptop is shipped. They explain everything to you when they call you to confirm there order. -
i5 is BS, its dual core, get the i7. if you want to get the gt 555m, here is my advice, turn off pc and dont come back to this site again! lol . thats the worst gaming graphics card, infact gtx 560m is no good at this point in time. min 6990m or wait 2 months and get gtx660m
-
I wouldn't quite agree with the comment above.
i5 is enough, considering you probably wont game.
The GT 555M takes good use of the Optimus option and holds fairly well.
As said several times before, try sending a direct email to reflex, they will clear things up way better
Also, there are unfortanetly no backlit options available at the current moment , although there will be on some of the upcoming models, but that will be a while. Good luck! -
i had an i5 before my i7. I can see a lot of difference even while unrar ing files. Good luck with GT 555M. see they dont even have an x to it. its not meant for gaming. Its like buying a honda civic and comparing it to 350z and saying but mine gives good mpg.( optimus)
just to be clear, i own a civic -
The difference between i5 vs i7 would not make a significant impact on gaming with mid-range GPU.
3. Not a significant difference for gaming, especially with GT 555M. Most games don't take full advantage of QuadCores.
4. No, it's a thinner chassis with longer battery life and smaller power supply. There isn't enough room to sufficiently cool GTX 560M.
5. Significant difference, but both cards are capable. If battery life and weight are not your concerns, then GTX 560M would be around 50% better on stock clocks. Radeon 6990M would have more than twice gaming performance in comparison to GT 555M.
6. Not on Sager Notebooks until the refresh P150EM are released in the next few months. Backlit keyboards are available on Alienware, Asus and MSI models currently. -
It's only slightly noticeable if you've got some insanely large .rar files, which I highly doubt people do very often.. or actually ever to feel a bit of difference that is. -
My dear Ellatan,
you can play games with 8600M GT too. Do you want to? You might happy with playin dave, we are not. We are interested in playing with 1080p. I have owned dozens of video cards over the years to know the difference between mid range and high end graphics card. I really dont understand some of the users here, I thought we are helping people make an informed decision. If you wanted to buy a GT 555 or GT540M you dont need to be in this room, it comes with dell. -
games will be playable 2 years down the road with the 555m, but to be honest it depends on the game really, I'm pretty sure with a lower resolution or low graphic settings it won't be a problem.
Acroedd, People here specially Ellatan give sound suggestions when it comes to helping people here, the op never said he wanted to play at max settings at 1080p. it was your requirement.
I too have owned "dozens" of video cards for both desktops and laptops and pretty sure most of the people here that suggests as well.
however each requirement is different given it may be getting the best specifications on a specific budget, or getting the best hardware for a specific purpose.
getting the "best top of the line, most expensive options" for a medium grade requirement is not something I'd suggest -
2- Hassle free warranty just means that we will pay for shipping both ways either to us or Sager USA and we will deal with the RMA requests, pretty much all you have to do is call us and say this isn't working that isn't working. If we can't solve it over the phone that's where the hassle free comes in to make your life easier.
3- i5 should be enough for gaming but i'd recommend the i7 2670, anything higher would be useless for *most* games.
4- For gaming i'd recommend at least a 560M
5- Pretty big difference yes. $ for $ the 6990M is your best bang for buck.
6- Not right now, the new models coming in Q2 will thoughAbout time if you ask me.

you guys dont want to try and play games at 1080p?????? I am outta here!

As the reseller chimed in and asked him to send an email, I'm closing this thread as its purpose has been served.
