So I am looking into getting a P151-HM1 from Malibal as soon as I can and I was just wondering about upgrading the hardware after I have had it for a while (rather than buying a new laptop).

I know RAM is expandable to 16GB and I was told that pretty much everything in the computer can be changed. That being said, what are my future options?

I know there are compatibility issues so:
What processors will work with this model?
    I'm guessing the
    Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM, 6MB L3 Cache, 2.2-3.3GHz
    Intel® Core™ i7-2820QM, 8MB L3 Cache, 2.30-3.40GHz

And what GPUs would I be able to swap?

The GTX 460M, 560M, possibly 6970M, 470M and 570M. It all depends on the power supply vs power drain really. If your CPU + GPU drain < PSU, then you can put it in. I can't say for sure beyond that what you could upgrade directly. If you're getting a P151HM1 and you really want to future proof, a GTX 560M and a 2720QM with 8GB RAM (1333/1600 doesn't particularly matter) would be a good set to get from the get-go.

I'm getting all that but with the 2630 in stead of the 2720.

You can also upgrade to the GTX485m, 580m, etc...you just need to buy the PSU from the NP8150

Would I need a better battery for that? (Granted by the time I would upgrade to the 485m I would probably be wanting a fresh battery anyway...)

You wouldn't need a better battery, but you would need a higher wattage power supply. The P151HM1 only has a 120w. The 485m/6970/580m are higher wattage parts and need the 180w power brick the P150HM ships with. So if you were to upgrade the GPU, you'd need the new GPU, heatsink, and a higher wattage power brick.

Ok. So how difficult would swapping heatsinks be? Does it raise compatibility issues? (So pretty much, is upgrading my gpu and cpu in the future really just completely pointless?)

Nah, swapping the heatsink isn't a big deal. If you buy the aftermarket GPU from somewhere reputable it almost always comes with the needed heatsink. Even though, say, the 485m might use an MXM standard, the heatsink design can differ between the brands the card was originally made for (Alienware, Clevo, etc), so that's really the only compatibility part to watch out for.

The compatibility won't be your issue, it'll be price. After market MXM cards can be tough to find and expensive :)

    @MALIBAL#2
on your website you have the gtx 485m as a part that you can buy separately, will you lower the price, and will you add the 560m 570m and 580m to that list of parts you can buy seperately?

Hi, yes I'm sure the 485M will come down in price sometime soon. Also, customers can always request a part that's not on our site and we'll see if we can get it. :)

Sweet! That sounds like a good plan for my future! I have now future-proofed my notebook that I have yet to own.... (Ok in my opinion it is future proofed. I plan for at least 3 years out of this, hoping for 5. I assume they may go up to 8cores for laptops by that time and even better cards but I really see no need for that.... A higher end i7QM, 16gb ram [overkill but why not?], and a 485m should be enough for me for the next few years...)

^^My recommendation would be to call them. I'm sure it depends on components, etc.

It does depend on the configuration, but most ship out in 4-5 business days. :)

I believe that the problem with WIDI is that it has to be able to use the integrated card, which the p150hm can't. You'd have to find a solution that could run on any graphics card.
