I'm most likely going to be purchasing a 5790 from xoticpc.com in the next couple of days. I just have a few questions that I'd like to ask before I spend a good chunk o' change.

    1. Does it make sense to buy it now with a 7950 GTX or should I wait for the 8800 series? I mean, the PC is a MXM model, do you think that I'll have the option to replace my 7950 with an 8800 when they're released?

    2. The big question for me is whether to go with Matte or "Glare Type" glossy? My budget allows me to purchase a matte screen, 4 gb ram, and a 80 gb 7200 rpm hd. If I go with the glossy, I can get a 100 gb 7200 rpm with 2 gb ram.

    Thank you.

    1. Search. It has been discussed.

    2. Like it says, glossy screens reflects light. Therefore, if you use are planning to use it outside then I really don't think glossy is for you. If not, glossy is great.

Welcome to the forum wallercp :)

    1. The 8800M will not be released until this Winter. No one can tell you if you can upgrade to a card that doesn’t exist. The 8800M may have power and thermal requirements that exceed the current specs of the laptops that are out now. You can only hope and wait to see if it will be upgradeable.

    2. Matte screens do work better outdoors than glossy screens, but none of them work well unless they are shaded. In direct sunlight all of them will wash out and be very hard to read. The biggest advantage of the Matte screen is they do not reflect the room lighting, sunlight coming through the window, or the user or others walking behind the user. A glossy screen can resemble watching a non Matte TV during the day with the window shade open behind you. There is a great thread discussing Matte vs. Glossy, including a Poll, at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=132881

As laee3 says, both of your questions have been discussed at length so a search would reveal a lot of additional information. Whether and under what circumstances 4GB memory will work, and will benefit you, has also been discussed at length. The search function is your friend...please use it before starting a new thread.
