Hello ive been looking to get a laptop for college that is a good mix between gaming and mobility. I was looking at the HP dv6500t but now more recently ive been looking at these brands as for the price it seems you can get a much better system. Im still not sure thouhg. Are there any disadvantages to getting a sager as opposed to an HP? Also, whats the best sager computer I could get for gaming for under $1500

I really don't see any advantage to the HP, unless you like people recognizing your laptop and/or having the same laptop as you.

I second the NP2090, limited supplies atm though.

what would you recommend with taht machine? I was thinking the 2.2GHz processor and would 3GB of ram be significantly better than 2?

Will this be able to play games like Age of Conan? I dont even know if system specs are out yet but thats really the main game im interested in...

also, if there are limited quantities, would I be able to get it before august? (i need it for college)

Ill tell you what I know, andrassy. But its nothing technical.

If you are going for the Sager2090, you will get the videocard Nvidia 8600GT, which is the best directX 10 notebook videocard for this laptop size available. I don't know the techinical benchmark scores to back it up, but logically, this will allow it to play current games without a problem.

I chose to go with the t7300 because I thought it was the most bang for my buck. I cant find a justification to pay the extra money to upgrade from the t7300 to the t7500 for a mere .2 ghz.

As for ram, the minimum u should get is 2gb. What I did was order 1gb from Xotic PC and plan to add more ram myself as soon as the laptop arrive. You can do what I do to save money (its normally really easy to instal laptop memory), but XoticPC memory prices arn't really that overpriced in the first place.

As for getting it before august... I cant say for sure but I hope so. I actually need my notebook by mid july. I just ordered it on 6/18. So if you do decide to get it, you and I will be on the same boat. But according to current sources, you should expect to recieve your laptop by mid july if you order it anytime soon.

I also agree with Glueater's statement. The hp6500 is a wetnoodle compared to the IFL90 in regard to gaming. They are running a completely differnt class of gaming videocard.

and lastly, FYI, the only thing i didnt like about the sager 2090 is that it forces you to get the 9cell battery which sticks out in the back.

I would say that the consensus of the two best places to get your sager 2090 is either XoticPC.com or powernotebooks.com

In my opinion, they are both equally superb notebook dealers with roughly the same prices. I went with XoticPC because they accepted paypal echeck payments, which was a big convenience for me.

thanks very helpful so far! Now i asked my friend and he said it looks like a great computer but it might be advisable to put the $100 tha would upgrade to 3GB into a 2.2GHz processor instead. Any input on which of those two options is better? And also any more opiniosn on it/how well ti will handle games

I don't think the 2.2 GHz is worth it at all. Like mtruo001 said, the T7300 (2.0) will give you the most bang for your buck. Why? because the T7100
(1.8) only has a 2MB cache, that one step up to the T7300 doubles your cache and gives you a faster processor.

As for what to upgrade, i say get the ram. I don't think games are as CPU intensive as you think. the ram will help the cpu and the gpu so it's a better investment overall. When a faster CPU helps you, is if you are into 3D modeling, such as CAD. Definitly get the 3GB. 3Gb seems to be the sweet spot right now.

As far as I know, MMORPGs have always been the lower end of the gpu spectrum, so I think you'll run it fine.

I can't answer the availibility question, if anyone can it'll be either Donald or Justin from Powernotebooks.com and XoticPC.com, respectively. So you can ask them. They both check the boards quite frequently so, they might even pop in here.

here's the deal with the ram. nothing right now really need 3gb of ram unless you're going to do heavy video/photo editing. plus, if you get 3gb of ram, you won't be able to run dual channel. so effectively, if you get 3gb of ram, you're increasing your ram capacity by 50%, but if you get 2gb of ram in dual-channel, you increase your speed by 50%

Sorry xindan80 but Dual Channel memory only gives about 5-7% increase in performance, and only in some applications.

The best reason to get a single piece of 2GB is so all you have to do is add another one to go to 4GB.

However I do agree with you that for most users 2GB is plenty of memory unless they are working with some real memory intensive applications.

They are not comparable . . . the A8 is a 14" machine based on the older Centrino Duo platform and the IFL90 is a 15.4" machine based on the newer Santa Rosa platform.

andrassy, the comparison is simlar to a 2006 Toyota Yaris vs. a 2007 V6 Honda Accord.
