Hey guys. I pulled the trigger on a 9390. I love this thing so far. I did have a question about cpu temp though. I just went through and played one round of Bad Company 2 with all settings maxed at 1920x1080. When I closed out after the first round I had left coretemp running, and my temps were as follows:

    Core 0: 81c
    Core 1: 82c
    Core 2: 81c
    Core 3: 80c

Just wondering if these are temps that should be expected, and are they safe? Is Coretemp accurate? I have the i7 4700MQ CPU.

    Thanks,
    -RYknow

Edit: Those temps were the max temps obviously. It's currently idling at about 44c on all four cores. Room temp is currently 77F

They are safe, don't worry about those temps! Only constant 90c+ is harmful for your cpu in the long run(and even that is questionnable). Was your cpu being used 100% during gameplay or more like 80% or so? because if it's more like 80, I think a good repaste of your cpu can help, also is your laptop lifted off the desk or not? try lifting the back with a book or something

wish mine were like that. those temps are perfectly fine so game away to hearts content.

when you hit 90c+ thats when you need to post.

ive hit all 4 cores on 98c before but that was pushing it to its max with benchies.

also as its 77c ambient room temperatures they are super cool for combined room and game temps.

you can find lots more monitoring software in my sig below.
    enjoy.

*PHEW*!! Thanks for the response. That makes me feel so much better! You offer other monitor programs which is great! I'll give them a look. Just curious is Core Temp is known to be less accurate?

    Thanks,

i use core temps all the time but hwinfo64 is also great as it gives all the info you need in one software.

what graphics card have you got out of interest as im not sure which that 9390 model is. its the worst thing about clevo as each reseller has their own model numbers and it does get a bit (actually a lot) confusing especially as im on the other side of the world.

Those temps are completely fine, mine runs to about 85 C with more demanding games like Sleeping Dogs.

I tend to prefer XTU if I'm just monitoring CPU temps, but hwinfo64 gives the full gamut including the PCH temp which is lacking in many other softwares.

You may also want to check out this thread on creating in-game overlays so you can monitor everything in real-time.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll give a different Monitor program a try. I just gamed through two rounds of bad company 2. I used real temp this time and got a max temp of 80c, with an ambient for 74f.

MrDJ; I got the gtx 780m. It's a pretty amazing card so far for a laptop. My next game purchase will be BF4. We'll see how she does with that. So far though, I'm LOVING this thing. The wife doesn't like the hit on the wallet, but I'm happy as can be!

webcrtor: I'll be sure to give the book method a try too. I had thought about doing that, but haven't tried it yet.

    Thanks guy, Merry Christmas!

One more thing: if you're not super-sensitive to jagged edges, I recommend setting AA to not more than 4x MSAA, or even just disabling it completely. In Sleeping Dogs, going from "Extreme AA" (which I believe is 16x MSAA) to "High AA" (either 4x or 8x MSAA), my FPS increases by about 50% on average, and doubles in certain areas. Both 780M temps also drop by 10 C. Me I'd trade better performance + hardware longevity over what is basically an imperceptible difference that comes at the cost of both FPS and hardware temps.

Right, I never use AA and limit my FPS to 50 with Afterburner, so my 780m handles the games easly, never drops from 50 FPS and dont overheat.
