Quick question about the UBS 3

Are there any 15.6" offerings from Sager that come equipped with at least one of these ports? My budget is $1500 max and I've been looking very seriously at the NP8690. But, tbh..no USB3 is kind of a deal breaker. Another consideration has been Asus G53JW-A1 15.6", but it's priced squarely at my cap (not including tax/shipping) ...and I'm really trying to stick with this budget I've set for myself.

I have read that elsewhere on the forum that: "The new revisions of these chassis' (8690, 8760, 8850) all have 1 USB3 port", but I can not find confirmation on this anywhere.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated~

Sager NP5125 come with one USB 3.0 Port and it starts at $799.

 

My 8690 has a USB 3 port. Just the one.

 

Thanks for the feedback. The 5125 would have been a possibility if it had a better video card and DX11 compatibility.

Has anyone heard of the revised chassis upgrade to USB3? Or is it a pipe dream? And, if so, can anyone recommend another 15.6" from Sager or Asus with comparable specs w/ USB3? Would like to avoid MSI, as I've heard of numerous horror stories regarding their css. Though, they've got some very tempting offerings atm.

I don't know what your timeline is but Clevo has released a model W860CU-3D which mentions USB 3.0 in both the features and detailed spec list.
Sager recently released a revision of the 8690 with the 460M but the spec sheet does not mention USB 3.0. It should just be a matter of time.
Try calling them and asking. They may not have updated their website.

 

Live4Spd, I just came across the MSI GX660 and some models run the radeon HD5870 with USB 3.0 at under 1400.00$.

The W860cu-3D looks great and the wait wouldn't bother me. It's the price on that bad-boy that's the turn off.

I had seen the GX660. But, as mentioned previously, I'd like to avoid MSI due to a splotchy record of customer service reported on this forum and others. Admittedly, they do have some very tempting offerings in the pipeline - but Asus and Sager come so highly recommended I'd prefer to stick with those two if possible.

Btw, i'll be putting a call into Sager CS to try to get my original question answered some time tomorrow.

 

All new W860CU's (NP8690's) have one USB3 port.

 

did you know you can get an expresscard usb 3.0, and this one here i found does not stick out on the side of the laptop, so you can just leave it in there. Only $10.

I just got confirmation today from my Sager sales rep that the NP8690 is not shipping with 1 X USB 3.0
It will only be avalable end of September.

 

I would've said that last 1/3 of a month is the end of the month...

 

lolz thericko. I guess they still have the old version of the W860CU in stock and won't ship out the new versions until they run out.

The end of September is an estimate. Based on my experience with Sager that could be tomorrow or it could be 3 weeks from now.

 

Quick update. Nova and erik nailed it, they're (Sager) just trying to unload all their non-USB3 chassis before they start shipping out the updated NP8690s w/ USB3.

Order has been placed and post-dated till they start shipping the W860CU with the updated chassis.
