Okay, so I decided to get a Clevo M570U from rjtech about a month ago instead of waiting until July for the M570RU. I got it completely bare, with the 7950GTX and the WUXGA screen. No Bluetooth, since I have a MSI Star Key from my desktop (and it's not like I'll be using all my USB slots anyhow).
I bought a T7200 locally (gotta help out the little guy), and had some RAM picked up off of newegg. Unfortunately, the RAM's not really working that great (failed memtest pretty quickly), and I'm not sure if it was a compatiblity problem, or if it's defective. It's a 2x1GB set of G. Skill memory. Part number's F2-5300PHU2-2GBSA if that helps any.
So, I'm going to RMA it regardless, but if it's just incompatible and I end up with a refund, I'm wanting to take the plunge to 4GB. My question is should I go for the OCZ 2GB sticks from
HERE for $85
or
Crucial 2GB sticks from HERE for $90 after Google Checkout? (I can always buy one, and have my fiancé buy the other, so I can take advantage of the $10 for each.![]()
Is there any issues with either ram with this laptop that anyone's aware of? I'm not too keen on memory brands, so is either one held in higher regard? Made of better components?
Thanks for the advice/help.

You have looked at the RAM DEALS thread right? That's where you can find the best deals on memory. For the M570U you need DDR2-667 (PC5300/PC2-5300). It looks like the memory you got was defective. The machine would not have even booted up if the RAM wasn't compatible.
OCZ is a great brand, I use it in my Sager. Also consider Crucial, very reliable memory. -
Yeah, I've looked at that thread. In fact, that's where I got the links and pricing to both of those selections of memory.
From browsing these forums lately, I've noticed people using both brands in their clevos, though usually 512 or 1gb sticks. I'm just wondering if there'd be any benefit to spending an extra $5 (and the small hassle of making two seperate Google Checkout accounts/orders) for the Crucial or not. -
You probably got a defective stick of RAM, it happens, so dont worry, just return/exchange it.
the OCZ is good, as well as the Crucial.
Pretty much brand has lost some of its meaning in memory since the memory chips and the warranty are pretty near the same... as well as more important.
the RAM Deals thread has all memory with reputable vendors and all has lifetime warranties. -
Well, I finally discovered my problem. It was one of the RAM slots themselves. Every stick that I owned (which amounts to 6 total now
) worked perfectly in Slot 0. when pairing any of them together, Everest, Memtest86+ and SiSoftware would all show failures. I tried placing a stick in just slot 1 and BAM! Instant failure.
So at least I found out what the problem was.
Quick question on M570U RAM compatibility
