I am looking into buying a 9260, and I was looking at different retailers --specifically xoticpc and powernotebooks but others as well-- I noticed some retailers said that the graphics card is user upgradeable, and others didn't mention anything like that.
Say if I ordered a Sager 9260 with 7950gtx, would I be able to upgrade to sli 8700M/8800M without voiding the waranty?
Also how far do you think this would go in terms of Penryn compatibility?

Do you think they'll release one based on a series 3 chipset that includes support for Penryn and DDR3 anytime soon?

Thank you for your time, it's late and I'm jetlagged so I'm not sure just how much sense this topic has made up to this point.

I'm in the same boat you are. Essentially, nothing official has been released, but there has been a lot of talk about future compatibility and most of it is good

Do a quick search on this forum. There isn't anything official about upgrading yet.

This Clevo D900C (aka. Sager 9260, Pro-Star 9191, etc..) uses an interchangeable MXM videocard design.

    So yes, it is upgradeable.

By summer's end, it should have the 8700M in it.

By year's end, it should have the 8800M.

Do you think later video cards will use the same standard, or in a year I'll have to get a new motherboard for a new video card?

Does it void the warranty for me to put a new card in by myself?

Do you think they'll make a model that will later be compatible with Penryn anytime soon?

Edit: In my original post, I meant do different retailers have different policies about the user being able to upgrade the graphics card, or do all retailers allow user upgrading without voiding the warranty?

You'll need to check with the reseller that you buy from as to what his/her/it's policies are regarding this.

Most, I believe, will consider the warranty void if they can show that your improper installation caused the problem.

Usually how much does it cost to send it in for installation?

Again, it will depend on your reseller. The one I went through, for upgrades, will match whatever I send it in as. I.e. you overnight it to them, they will overnight it back to me. Check the polices of the reseller though.
