Does anybody know why RAM from rjtech is so cheap? I was looking at the d900c and 4gb of RAM costs $490 from powernotebooks, $1,110 from xoticpc, and it only costs $300 from rjtech. Is there any difference between the three?

RJtech seems to be a bit more up to date with the RAM price drops...

technically 4 gigs of DDR2 SODIMM ram is about $250. I posted it last week in the Bargains sub-forum.

So you can by a notebook with no memory and get it separately for a better deal and easily install it yourself.

Memory is a sucky business because the prices move like the stock market sometimes. What often happened when I worked for companies that sold ram is that we would order memory "2 weeks at a time" to try and help fight the jumpy prices, but you end up with memory in your inventory that cost you $50 a stick two weeks ago, and $35 a stick this week, and $70 two weeks from now. it's sort of a balancing game to try and make sure you offer it as cheap as you can while still not losing money on it.

I'd bet RJ tech's business model has them order in very large discounted bulks only when the price is good (the places I worked were to small to do this < 1000 per 2 weeks) so they can "float" their prices based on market value.

Just remember that in the end, if the machine is within 5-10% of the competition, it's probably priced right. Look at how the warrenties are handled between RJtech and Powernotebooks/XoticPC... pretty drastic change. For many people, the Powernotebooks/XoticPC choice is prefered. For others, it simple comes down to the pennies ;)
