I didn't get the impression (based on vague intuition over the phone) that xotic does any repair work. But perhaps I'm mistaken. I've had pretty good luck with laptops thus far. I'm only really concerned with working out the bugs during the first year. But I think xotic will back up their labor agreement whether with Sager or them repairing it. Either way i can still ship it to xotic if need be.
I still haven't received my unit. But that is because I stupidly chose the no tax shipping method. And missed it being shipped out by like an hour. Otherwise I could have driven over and picked it up(!). Should be here sometime middle end of next week.
Shyster, I think most people pay premium for HP and VooDoo(?) stuff out of sheer ignorance. They are the only companies they have heard of selling high end laptops. And they don't have the intelligence to research and make decisions on their own. They don't read. Probably don't spend indepth time on the net. And buy whatever their Daddy did. But I think as society gets more and more fed up with corporate double speak - the more people are becoming aware that they need to seek out independent information.
That's a really nice lid cover and logo someone posted. But not the same as a 5790. It's a flat finish with a smaller rectangle emblem. At least on the Sager site.
I'm going way off topic but did everyone read the news about eurocoms unit?

well...Eurocom...it's one of those companies I heard about but had nothing to do with 'em so far..it seem that they are a good reseller (as we all know it's using Clevo barebones), but they will charge you a bit more (10-20%) than other resellers (such as XoticPc or PowerNotebooks).
..if you live in Canada there are not many reselleres available there anyway..and it seems that Eurocom is providing good customer service
..BUT, if you live in USA, you might want to consider XoticPc and PowerNotebooks..those two companies have GREAT (with capital "G") customer service and I have not seen anyone complaining about any of those on our forums so far..or I'm going blind (way too much alcohol drunk during my 21 years on this planet =P)
just remember two things:
1.) it is YOUR choice - I can't really guarantee that either XoticPc or PowerNotebooks will give you all you want (such as free upgrades that many of users on this forum expect or providing ways to overcome Clevo's (ODM) limitations)
2.) I'm using HP at this time...and didn't have much of experience with Clevo machines so far (besides many people who'd come to repair shop I used to work @ and saying that they need additional peripherials..no one had complained about a Clevo unit so far..and trust me, I have seen more than 5 in person so far - all of them looked really IMPRESSIVE)
3.) ..if you wonder why I got HP - reason was simple - I had $1.1k only..and I had to get a notebook that would be of any use to my mother (yup - call me a bad son, but it was a bithday gift for my mum..and I have used it for more than 6 mos so far) and since this unit was available in Best Buy exactly on the day of my mum's B-day I didn't have much of a choice left there
..anyway, I seriously think that you WILL be happy with a Clevo unit (no matter who is your reseller) as those are really the best machines you can get at this time..incredible performance ( fr a notebook) and not TOO hard to cary around...
..read these forums and you will get more info than I could ever give you -
I dont know if im the only one who preorder at eurocom... maybe i should do a review of it... with picture and video maybe...
I dont want to defend eurocom or another compagny... for now i got the best price and i feel more secure buying in my own country... here in canada if something go wrong i just send back everything in 30days and i get a refund... its the law...
Can an admin or someone who already did a review PM me with the "how to" make that... and someone to correct my mistake (yeah english is my 2nd language)
I should have everything before next year (thats what they told me, if nothing go wrong)
I wanted to dual boot XPpro32 and Vistahome64 so maybe i can do some benchmark and stuff... -
I will say that the machine served me adequately enough up until earlier this year (although I stopped playing SimCity because the graphics were a drag); however, when I started trying to speed the system up by leaning out the Sony bloat, and particularly when I tried to replace the HDD that ate itself, I quickly learned just how limited the machine was and how tightly Sony's golden handcuffs bound. What brought me to this little forum in the first place was the extreme frustration I experienced trying to get any sort of information out of Sony about replacing the HDD. Now that I'm here, I'll never go back - I am free, free at last.
RJTech or Xotic?
