Hello, I was ordering my laptop from Malibal today and I pm'd Malibal for exclusive discounts. When I tried to use the RAM promotion today it was deemed as "Invalid discount or gift code."

Has the RAM promotion expired or something? Has anyone else had this issue with discounts? I was given this discount code on the 24th. Yes, it has been a while so I assumed that perhaps the code expired, but what was strange was that in the same day I was also given another code for free shipping. That code worked.

So, I began to wonder why one code would expire, yet not the other, when they're being advertised at the same time.

    Thanks!

Malibal's RAM promotion ended, yes it did. You can still shop around at other resellers and see if they can get you a better deal. If you feel most comfortable dealing with Malibal, PM them with a competitor's price quote and they will tell you whether they can price match/beat it. :) This is not to say that other resellers are grossly inferior compared to Malibal, but... well I will let you decide. :p

yes, the RAM promotion expired, but they also now have a lower base price on a 4DIMM 8GB configuration and -$35 the previous price.

    Terminus123 is correct. We replaced the promotional code with a new 8GB (4 X 2GB) 1333MHz option that is $35 less than our 8GB (2 X 4GB) 1333MHz option.

Sadness. Was going to place an order this morning and had assumed the discount still worked.

What was the difference between the standard 8gb one that comes with orders now and the promotional deal?

The difference is that before you could get $35 OFF the 8GB 2 X 4GB option, while now the $35 OFF is only for the 8GB 4 X 2GB option.

What does that mean exactly? Is it better, worst, or the same kind of deals? Is the 4 X 2GB better than the 8GB 2 X 4GB?

Does this mean that those who pre-order the 6990m got the $35 extra discount?

I would think it's not as great a deal as it was. The difference between the two options is that one you get 8GB of RAM from 2 cards each with 4GB, while the other is 8GB of RAM from 4 cards each with 2GB. The 2x4GB leaves extra space for additional memory cards to be added.

As JerryMGHD said, it's a difference in RAM density. 4x 2GB will fill all 4 slots, so if you wanted to upgrade to say 16GB, you'd have to replace all 4 sticks of RAM. 2 x 4GB will only use two slots, so you can easily add another 2 x 4GB and max it out (or any other amount) and not have any sticks leftover.

Performance-wise though, there's no difference between the two options :)
