Good morning, I'm looking at ram for the M5 and specs say use DDR3L.
Is DDR3 1.35v (not labeled DDR3l) the same as DDR3L as DDR3L runs at 1.35 or is there some other difference than just the voltage?
This is the ram I'm looking at:

DDR3 runs at 1.5v, while DDR3L supports both 1.5v and 1.35v.
So just make sure it's 1.35v, in which case it is indeed DDR3L. -

The L is supposed to indicate low voltage, being the 1.35v, but I don't think all companies call it that necessarily. But as long as it is the right size of ram, and 1.35v, you should be good to go.
-
Interesting, on my quick search for laptop ram looks like most runs at 1.35v nowadays.
Thank you for the info, appreciated always. -

Yes, most do utilize the 1.35v, you can still find some 1.5v (non L) but more uncommon now.
-
Guess the real question, should I? lol

That's good ram you are looking at from that link so if the budget permits and you are having some issues with not having enough, i'd say pull the trigger
-
It's not so much as not having enough, currently have 2x8 of 1600 cl13 and this is 2x8 1866 cl10. Just trying to squeeze all the performance I can out of it.
-
I have those exact RAM sticks, got it on sale a while ago. They work fine, but in reality, you probably won't notice much difference in real-world performance. Unless you're doing some specific tasks, for every day, casual use and most games, I doubt it will make a huge difference.
But if you can sell your current sticks for around $80 or so, the small extra fee for upgrading might be worth it. -

Ya i mean if you do things that require a lot of ram usage the extra snapiness of that ram would be nice. Like Ramzay said, it's not going to be an OMG moment when you put them in though
-
It's funny you mention $80 as that's what a friend said buy mine for. I'm going to pull the trigger, not only faster but tighter timings. Thanks again.
-
You could probably put them on a price alert and in a wish list and you might get 10-15% discount if you're willing to wait.
-
Even though I cant really seeing this machine getting any faster the OCD in me wants matching and the fastest ram the cpu/mobo will support
-
Hey Xotic, which ram would I need to build a P650SE with the i7 5700hq?

Nothing wrong with wanting the most performance possible from a laptop that touts high performance. 1600 RAM is the fastest the CPU memory controller supports on the SE model. -
Guess I should have been more specific, I have the SE-a with the i7-5700 and I believe it supports 1600/1866
-

Ah, then in that case: yep! 1866 is your ceiling. -

Well official ceiling, you can try for more but it may not work and the vast majority of people wont see a performance advantage for taking that risk.

Same stuff

Which is exactly why I try to leave it at "stick with 1866."

Since people just mentioned the speeds, I'll just add that you need DDR3 1.35v. If you have ram in your system already, try to match it as close as possible. -
DDR-3L SODIMM is what is needed... I would go for 1866MHz on safe side or 2133 if you want to risk it
-
thanks. I will pick up a set of 1866. DDR-3L.
