I made an earlier post saying how my index score seemed low for DDR3 ram in my NP5796 and was told not to trust WEI. Well recently after overclocking my gpu and running 3DMark06 I came across the system info page and was surprised to see it state that my ram was only DDR2. As it is a paid a hefty amount of money for this laptop and to not receive the parts as ordered from sager I would be rather pissed off![]()
here is an image of my system info

Any help is fully appreciated

3DMark 06 was out before DDR3 was even out. I think we were seeing prototypes of it around that time period. So naturally it wouldn't recognize it.
-
Just because 3dmark says it doesn't mean it's true. 3dmark is not God
Edit: Your laptop I'm pretty sure ONLY uses DDR3 so I wouldn't worry. Get CPU-Z and check, it will probably be more accurate if you're still worried. -
cpu-z says ddr2 also so i don't know whats going on
-
Pic of CPU-Z?
When did you buy your laptop? They used to use DDR2, right? -
The problem with all software reporting on hardware components is the same with all software - GIGO. If you really want to know what you have in there, then you'll just have to open it up, physically inspect the DIMMs, and, if necessary, get the product number off the DIMM and check for specs to see what it really is. Anything other than that is just navel-gazing, ultimately.
-
Blasphemy!
lol -
I've never gazed into a navel... hmm...
CPU-Z Shows mine as DDR3. -
Hi,
Well, I have the same Problem.
Here is what CPU-Z say.
^ RAM-Slot2 shows the same only with other Serialnumber

looks like ddr3 ram to me, it even says so in the second picture, also ddr2 ram runs at 1.8v and ddr3 at 1.5v.
-
Eh, Cpu-z also says my P8600 is a T8300, so the program is obviously not up to date.
-
Still, there are notebooks out there for which the ram is ddr3 and the windows score thingy is 5.8/5.9. But then again if it runs everything as it should... there's no problem, right?
-
Ok so I took off back plate to my notebook and looked at the RAM there is a placed on JUL 08 sticker and one other stick that has a printed DDR with a hand written 3 on it and that's all the markings on the RAM. Very odd shouldn't there be a Manufacturing sticker on the ram?
-
LOL... that sounds ghetto
hand written 3
-
Heres a pic sorry for the quality only have my iphone to take pictures
-
The sticker might be on the other side..... pop it open and check.
-
I did, nothing on the other side.... those are the only stickers
-
You mean you saw nothing, right?

Take the SODIMM completely out of the slot and look for a part number printed on one side or the other, or else on a sticker pasted across several of the ICs on the PCB; some of the relevant part numbers are:
Kingston:
KVR1066D3S7-1G, KVR1066D3S7-2G
OCZ:
OCZ3M1333-1G, OCZ3M1333-2G
Corsair:
CT875420, CT875421
Patriot:
PSD31G106681S, PSD32G10662S
Qimonda:
IMSH1GS14A1F1C, IMSH2GS13A1F1C
If you cannot find any sort of identifying numbers printed on the PCB, then look for a part number on one of the individual ICs and google on that (I'd have done that myself, but your photo leaves quite a lot to be desired). -
Just take a screenshot of your CPU-Z, under the SPD tab. That's all the info we need.
-
Actually, all sorts of random things have been found drawn or stenciled on chips (mushrooms, predator stencils etc), and the image posted here was just on a sticker.
-
interesting... I must have missed those on all my systems, heh. I actually posted that before he posted the picture... I was just imagining his Ram saying DDR and then written 3 next to it... like oh.... DDR3 nice.
-
I do this with my wife, is it the same thing?
lol
EDIT:
My bad, I took "navel" too literal! -
I had to look up the word just to make sure I didn't mix it up the way you did, hehe
Ram is supposed to be DDR3 in np5796 3dmark06 says its DDR2????
