New Razor Blade True Gaming Laptop with i7 Processor - YouTube
I had a pretty good laugh while watching this on my Sager NP8170 with GTX 485m, i'll take an extra inch of thickness over that weak overpriced thing. Who are they kidding? It's still not a true gaming laptop anyways since you can't game on it off the battery.
Well to stay on topic, i just uploaded another new vid of Deus Ex Human Revolution running on my Sager with 485m, lets see the Razer Blade do this at 60 fps lol!

I agree the Razer Blade is overpriced. But I am chuffed with the design, it's great to see a company trying to compete with Apple! Gizmodo did a very interesting article on the Razer Blade concept. Might see a push for a more standardized PC spec's. Would mean the lesser GPU offered wouldn't be as bad seeing as it would be better optimized by developers (look at consoles hardware).
The price still needs to come down though, way too expensive! -
Love the design here too. But I can't really imagine it selling that well when most people can't even offord one. It also seems to have the same graphics as the m14x, which is almost 1/3 of the price.
-
Looks cool. Expensive...

Gaming laptops, do not exist today, he said it, so it must be true. Maybe we have all been fooled guys? I really thought I had a gaming laptop, but my 6.8lbs 2 inch thick 15.6'' laptop is just way too huge to be a gaming laptop. I didn't realize I was using a desktop this whole time, Well I wondered why my class mates were oggling me at school today when I brought this desktop into class, they must have thought I had lost my wiggles at the chocolate factory today. It's amazing to be reborn a Razer enlightened, Hail razer, full of grace may we pay $2800 for this godly piece of gaming awesomeness so that we may live in the eternal kingdom of Bent over backwards so far my head got stuck somewhere.
-
90% marketing....10% ....I don't even know.
-
I agree it is overpriced, however the small lcd screen besides keyboard impressed me.
-
it just pisses me off that ignorant people will actually spend money on this thinking they are getting some uber amazing gaming notebook--and then they start playing BF3....
-
Oh oh oh! I just made the best analogy to my friend about this laptop.
say I have a Ford
it's a pickup truck, I paid 10 thousand dollars for it, and it's nice, has a 4 cylinder 120hp engine, does what I need.
well I know what it can do and can't do, since I own it, and if I didn't own it, well I have a good idea what it does
say Mercedes Benz comes along and says, we have the FIRST ever REAL pickup truck!!! Before, trucks were not able to haul anything, they had plastic wheels and a small hamster running on a wheel for power..but we added rims and a sleek paint job to our truck, and it's got a 3 cylinder engine that has 40 hp , but it's only 40 thousand dollars! -
-
one thing's for certain though, it will not sway any current gaming laptop owners to even consider switching over. They're best bets are new comers but who the hell would want to drop 2.8k into a machine/brand that's not proven?
-
Question is if this notebook can beat a real macbook pro 17? xD
-
The author clearly had no idea what the id Software developer was referring to in regards to standardization of PC hardware, and should have done some Googling on FSAIL, the hardware that's likely going to be in next-gen consoles, and what pairing of CPU and GPU is in the Apple notebooks that he wants the PC gaming hardware to be modeled after.
I mean for Christ's sake, this mongoloid tech reporter actually came out and said that it would fall on Intel to standardize hardware for PC game developers and that AMD and Nvidia should get out of their way and leave the industry. If someone said that to me in a face to face discussion I would completely lose all ability to form coherent thoughts and, out of frustration of not knowing where to start telling this person how wrong he is, would turn to physical violence. -
I really like the idea of the small LCD panel next to the keyboard. But for $2800 it is way to over priced.
-
This topic should not exist.
@ Phinagle - I could not help myself and gave you thumbs up for your post. -
I like this article about it.
Why I wouldn't touch Razer's Blade with a 10ft pole -
It seems to me like the marketing campaign is based on the concept of a "gaming laptop" being something mainstream people dont know about. They are trying to make it seem as though the concept is something brand new, and they are the ones who have pioneered it. And lets face it, alot of people dont really have any awareness that such a thing as gaming laptops exist. They are hoping for some sort of phenomenon like Apple fell into with the Ipod, in that many people believe that Apple created the entire concept of MP3's/MP3 players.
Maybe i am overthinking it or something, but that is the vibe i am getting from it.
I dont think this is going to work. The world is far less tech ignorant than it was back in the day, and a gaming laptop market has been in existence for some time. Most of the people who would be willing to pay 2.8k for a gaming lappy are the same people who are well aware of sagers/alienware/asus/etc. -
what really impressed me about the "blade was that even with such a crappy video card it was still able to play bf3 at 1080p. oh let me rephrase it was still able to play the bf3 trailer at 1080p.
and the battery life will be amazing with the 60wh and its so much lighter than my clevo, its nearly -.16 pounds lighter.
and about standardizing the video card, talk about the most non standard video card there is, the gt 555m has 6 or 7 different variants.
so in conclusion, its heavier bigger has less battery life and has crap components in comparison to what i have.
good job razor you have reinvented the macbook minus osx, you have even set a comparable price tag. -
forget BF3, what about the other game in the vid?
The niche market for this is the same niche market that buys up their overpriced WoW designed keyboards and mice because elfs are more bad@ss with special glowing peripherals. -
I cant believe that razer doesnt see this. I have a razer deathadder 3500dpi and It is the best mouse i've ever had, mostly because it is really comfortable for my hand.
I just don't understand their ignorance. I mean how COULD they not see this. Have they been living in a box or something -.- -
All these years of buying over sized notebooks and they were not even "True gaming Notebooks". Seriously though as an avid gamer i do a lot of research on the machines i buy and i have always looked at performance > everything else. Have previously owned a NP9262, NP8120 and now got a NP7280 on the way out to me as i type this. I do like the way the machine looks but as far as gaming is concerned it just doesn't quite cut it. Underpowered and overpriced but i am sure there will be a lot of people that do end up buying this machine based off of the whole "true gaming laptop" symbol they are attaching to this glorified net-book.

I hope he meant notebook. Otherwise, please point me to a $400 laptop with the same specs!
-
Reminds me of the confusion I feel when evaluating LeNoNo's...
-
The design is somewhat interesting... but the actual hardware, not so much
-
Yea I saw this and it looks like a nice system. But the price is waaay to much.
-
Eh. Too gimmick-y. If they want to go with gimmick as their main marketing plan, why not sprinkle that switchblade technology all over it, instead of just a few small, (likely) useless macro configurable button on the side? Personally, I'm much more interested in this one, but knowing Razer, they'd probably put a hefty premium on it as well. PASS.
-
I'd pay half for that. It's equivalently specced to my NP 5165.
-
hmm those keys with the lcds behind them are kindof cool, infact that would be significantly better than backlit keys, and better even than a touch screen, at least for keyboards.

I am also on the its-too-gimmicky camp.
I laughed when they said in one of the razer blade videos that they could have compromised and let the USB 3.0 be blue in color but they didn't and made it green to suit their green-scheme. -
Unreal. Like you said, the gimmick-factor is a bit too much.
-
Although this does take the whole "gimmick" idea to an entirely different level, one can't ignore Razer's contribution to mobile gaming with this laptop, if that LCD screen works as intended. Hopefully, we will see more such innovative gaming laptops from other brands (especially clevo
) in the future!

Razer's Combat Knife-Inspired Blade Gaming Laptop Will Be Home For Christmas
THey upgraded the specs to a 256 SSD now. Same price at 2800$. Just need that 560m now to run games at ful res and i'd be down -
Oh I remember this, $3000 for 555M in a "portable" 17-incher! The whole thing reminds me of a scene from Seinfeld - "Yeah I understand, it's $37.50 for a 3 Musketeers"
-
Wonder what the fan + heatsink setup is like....and it's kinda heavy for what they're offering in terms of "portability"
-
Pay $2900 to be part of the testing team for version .80 of that LCD panel?
No thanks
It does have a lot of wow factor
And also a lot of steal me factor
(Alienware owners should feel safe with one of those around😁 -
Wow, I'd consider buying one of those if the price was more like $1200.
