Hi guys, I have a sager np 5793 T8100, 4 GB, Intel Robinson, with the NVIDIA 8800 GTX on 64 bit VISTA, that I got though xoticpc (great guys BTW) in June and have been loving it.

However, in the last few days, the system has become very slow in booting, after the sign in, the screen goes black for up to 10 minutes at a time before it finishes, and then it is running at 80-95% of CPU processing and totally sluggish. Task manager indicates that the dwn.exe, explorer.exe are using the most memory...

    Kaspersky indicates no viruses, etc...

Any ideas what is going down?? Thanks!

Caramba. A reinstall might not be a bad idea. Also, check out this thread. :D

Especially, check out the section on defragging your boot files. Also, you may want to defrag the rest of your computer while you're at it. I can recommend JKDefrag.

Oh, and have you installed any programs recently or turned on any features that might be bogging things down?

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the replies.

I tried the msconfig and booted it in safe mode and turned off the DVD program and now it boots fine, but, ever since I did this, the personalization menu on control panel won't open and the iconography on screen is as if it were on vista basic and I cannot change it. Also, my Kaspersky went bad and I had to repair it. Also, the fingerprint reader now won't start when the computer comes on...

maybe it is a vista problem and maybe I may have to reinstall the whole stupid thing....
