I'm extremely worried about dead pixels. It's pretty much the only thing holding me back from ordering one.

I've looked at several companies ranging from Malibal to XoticPC to sager themselves.

What are the chances I would get dead pixels anyway?

...and with Sager and XoticPC, do the options really guarentee that my notebook will be completely dead pixel free (at least within the first 30 days as it states in the configuration menu)

Just a risk you are going to have to take with ALL laptops, my friend. Not just with Sager or Clevo.

That's just the nature of LCD monitors. Don't let something like this preventing you from making a rational, logical decision.

Any laptop can come with a dead pixel. Not just sager. That shouldnt be a deciding factor.

Hi, I can only speak for us - we virtually never get a complaint about someone receiving a laptop with bad pixels - so, it really shouldn't be something to worry about.

Also, we can offer a 100% 30 Day No Dead Pixel Guarantee, like the other resellers ($60-$100 depending on model) - which would cover all shipping costs to replace the screen, if by chance you did get a bad pixel in the first 30 days.

I'm not 100% sure about what dead pixels are (I'm guessing spots where it just doesn't light up...) but my current laptop, ASUS UL-50VT, came with some bright spots and bright smudges on my display. All I had to do was contact the manufacturer and get them replaced, no big deal. It was something that it came with too and not something that developed so unless you are really lazy or don't notice it until the 30 days are up (no idea why you wouldn't), you should be good.

I didn't have a single dead or stuck pixel on my display. Worst comes to worst, at least with a Sager you have a 30 day no-questions-asked return policy. If there's a dead/stuck pixel, use it.

Tell you what guys, you can ignore what I said earlier. I have and LCD screen and all the Sagers I have looked at have LED screens.

^^Same thing. LED just refers to the type of backlight.

Dead pixels are rare, but do happen unfortunately. You can always use the 30 Day Return policy or purchase the DP Warranty up front if you want to avoid the hassle in the event you get one.

I received mine with a cluster of 3 dead pixels.
Ordered RMA and received replacement with 1 defective/dim pixel. Returned both. Even before I received 2nd replacement LCD I was told that while they were testing my replacement LCD they bumped into another defective LCD.

So, to me it was 3 bad LCDs out of 4.

Wow. 1080p screen pixels is really small and unnoticeable. You are really picky over these dead pixels :p

My Sager came with no dead pixels, didn't buy the 30 day warranty... my 4 year old dell has a dead pixel on the lower left corner... barely notice it.

I have an area of bright dots on my screen, but only when the screen is showing black. It's in the center. Since the most times I see a black screen are loading times/etc, I don't bother with it. I'm not sure when it appeared first though. Hell, it took me four months to realize it was a screen problem; I just thought it was a bug with Fallout 3.

My Clevo P150HM has no dead pixels either. I've owned 3 laptops including the one I have now the previous 2 were Dells and I have never had any trouble with dead pixels. It happens but its rare and in no way should affect your decision to buy.

I also have a splotch of bright dots around the middle, but only noticeable when there's a black screen.

So what are the best ways to check for dead pixels, i.e. are there some tools/apps that do it?

You see it. If you don't see it, it's not there. Forget about it.

It's one of those "if you see it, they're there, if not, then rock on" type of things :D It's purely an aesthetics thing. If you don't notice it, then it's obviously not a problem. The odds of getting dead pixels are quite low to begin with though.

I have owned various lcd monitors for 4+ years (dell and an alienware) with no problems and while I don't want to scare anyone here's my take; I bought a sager np8130 about two months ago. Everything was fine until about 15-20 days into owning the laptop a white pixel appeared right in the middle of my lcd screen and it wouldn't go away (happened when I was installing a game). I managed to get my money back due to the 30 day return policy though if it happened during the 27th or so day I probably would have been stuck with it (since Sager needs to receive the laptop before the 30th day is up for the refund and shipping takes around 3 days). So even if your laptop has no dead/stuck/bright pixels right out of the box it doesn't mean you won't get them a week/month down the line and... I guess just like death you have no control over it so why worry about it. =)
