At the moment, when I connect my laptop to my tv, I choose "Digital output" so that the sound comes through my tv speakers, however when I unplug the hdmi cable i have to manually set my sound options back to "Speakers" for it to come through my laptop speakers. Is there any way for this process to be automated?

    Cheers.

I'm running Windows 7 and I have to do the exact same thing.
But, ehh - it's not that big of a deal.

Yea it's not that big a deal, just a bit of an annoyance. I've known people whose laptops would switch between the two depending on if hdmi was plugged in or not under vista, so i'm wondering if anything can be done now.

If you hook up the HDMI cable before booting and unhook it after shutting down, it MAY autodetect properly (I know the HTPC I just built does). Otherwise, I'm not aware of any way to automate it.

Of course, it should be noted that shutting down and restarting every time you want to change your A/V hookup would take longer than just going into the control panel :D
