Hi,
I have a M570ETU, and when I try to use my SPDIF output for digital audio, I plug something in it, but Realtek won't detect it! also the SPDIF volume bar is greyed out in the Windows audio settings... is going on?
-
Nobody has any clue? God why must it be so hard to connect a laptop to a HDTV...argh, nothing but problems.
-
Doesn't sound over HDMI work?
-
Clevo's SPDIF output is Coaxial SPDIF (NOT optical).
I have went over this many many times in this forum.
i went over it here:

and here:

you can only use SPDIF if you are connecting it to a digital 6 to 8 channel receiver.
you can use a 3.5mm to RCA mono.
a setup like this:
http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio...gital-audio-3-5mm-to-rca-spidf/prodSPDIF.html
$16
OR
you can get a cheap 3.5mm to RCA female cable, and just use a basic RCA cable from that to the receiver
$2.50 -
Yes, I have all that equipment. The problem is that when I plug it into the black port (digital) on the laptop, Realtek doesn't pop up with any message and ask me what I just plugged in...it doesn't seem to detect it at all.
And I probably have digital output over HDMI, but I can't get the HDMI-output to work, so... -
sounds like you may be missing a driver
-
Hm, what driver could it be? I already have the RealTek driver, which I downloaded of Clevo's official website...
-
download the newest realtek driver here:
Vista/Win7
XP -
just to let everyone know, you can also use a 3.5mm to RCA stereo (red and white) cable.
digital audio is such a convenient format... i found an old 3.5mm to RCA stereo adapter and a bad quality 3.5mm stereo 30ft M/F extension and was able to hookup my s/pdif output to my sound system. the extension i'm using is really bad, i'm getting lots of interference if I hookup my computer's stereo output to my sound system, it's unbearable!
but the good thing about digital signals is that instead of adding noise to the audio signal, the interference from my cable just adds noise to the stream of zeros and ones, but still gets decoded error free at the other end.
bottom line is, dont get fooled buying expensive cables for digital signal transmission. digital transmission works perfectly regardless of how bad the signal gets degraded, until it reaches a threshold where it completely fails (i.e. you probably need good cables to transmit over several hundred feet, but otherwise stick to the cheap stuff)
a good source for cheap cables is www.monoprice.com -
I'm getting the same problem. The sound bar is greyed out and I can't get it to output sound. Any ideas?

I tried to but my Realtek audio manager and windows sound devices interface looks much different from yours.
-
I've installed the latest Realtek software from Realtek's site. I've updated my ac3 filter (don't know if it has anything to do with it or not). But I can't see an option to select digital sound as the output with spdif.
-
your software settings look fine... are you trying to play digital sound through HDMI or SPDIF?
have you made sure everything was working on the receiver end? perhaps you could try it with another laptop that you know has been working, or try your laptop on someone else's TV/audio receiver. -
I'm using it via spdif. My audio receiver works fine with anything else. When I hook up the spdif the spdif volume is grayed out and the sound comes thru the laptop speakers.
-
was trying to connect it via SPDIF to my home cinema system..
heres my topic link..

Anyone have any idea why spdif output isn't an option?
-
Can you show us a screenshot of the "Hardware" tab? In the Realtek software thing can you click on the DIGITAL image or something to activate it? If you take a look at the Device Manager do you see both the analog and digital sound devices, do you have any yellow question marks?
If you're hearing sound from your speakers it's not good. On my machine I have to set the Digital Output as the Default Device to activate it. When I do all programs use SPDIF as output device, not the speakers. You cant have both analog and digital sound at once, you must select one or the other. -
-
If thats not what you're looking for look to my previous post that showed the realtek hd manager -
I have the exact same problem.
I'm running Windows 7 Pro - 64bit. I tried all the stuff mentioned in this thread.
I gave up on finding a solution. -
So does anyone know how to enable spdif out with realtek on a 5793 running xp sp3?
-
I know it's not a busted port, it's a software issue.
I know because I've had this problem now with 2 different motherboards. (m70ru and m570etu)
I still haven't been able to fix this. Tried updating realtek drivers several times. No difference. -
After making my previous thread and still could not sort it i gave up and ended up buying an external usb card (turle beach audio advantage Roadie). Its ok but still not as good as onboard imo. -
Anyone else know a solution...seems to be a common problem
-
my brothers headphone jack broke awhile back so then he would plug his headphones into the s/pdif jack then realtek detect the device and ask what type of device was pluged in and he would simply select headphones. Once i installed windows 7 and got all the drivers realtek stoped detecting the headphones when inserted into the s/pdif jack while all the other jacks would (even the broken headphone jack). It seems to be a driver issue were gonna have to wait for
.
oh and when i do plug the headphones in the s/pdif i hear a buzzing sound with the audio my comp is playing very very feint in the background so i know its not the jack for sure. -
you have to use the Realtek software to enable which every audio port you choose to enable digital SPDIF.
remember that the connections have to be 3.5mm mono (connected to the audio jack) and RCA (for the receiver).
this is coaxial SPDIF .... not optical. -
I've done all of that and I've set it to enable spdif out. When I plug in my coax cable it doesn't auto detect. Is it supposed to? That would be an indication if that jack is broken or not I guess. Right now I get a greyed out spdif volume so it's not detecting it as an out.
-
Ok so I'm not sure what I did but my spdif port is sending sound to my amplifier. The weird thing is the spdif volume is still greyed out and I can still hear sound through my laptop speakers in addition to the amplifier. If I mute the volume it mutes both the laptop and the amplifier. But if I turn the master volume down to zero my laptop sound is off but the amplifier sound still works.
Is this working correctly? -
